the county is starting to hire more people for my department, which i am surprised at, but happy.
everyone here is "tenured" so to speak, so no one is really in danger of losing their job, but you never know...

Our company has had some major blows since November. In November we terminated one of our top outside field leaders. That was a major shake up because a lot of people in his downline quit to follow him.
In December our sales dropped drastically. We then had another top outside field leader quit. A large group of people from that downline followed suit. Another major blow to sales. Between Christmas and New Years the company laid off about 15 people.
From January till today we've lost quite a few more team members (some quit and a few were laid off)
We also had a change in management. The original owners of the company sold the company.
We're definately not hiring but some days you just never know whats going to happen. Especially in a place that the business is based on sales. A lot of people are cancelling their orders because of financial reasons. The company is feeling it bad in the bank account.

luckily one of our major competitors is going down the drain so we've been extremely busy. Thank goodness because DH has been laid off for a while now.

It sounds like DH's firm is ok, but my aunt is an executive secretary at Merrill Lynch. I worry about her all the time.

We have reduced everyone to no overtime. I fear that layoff's are not too far behind for the machinists
It is referred by the guys out in the shop as Black Tuesday.

I am not sure about my company. As far as I know we are okay since they seem to be hiring like normal but you never know.

I know firms here that are suffering and starting cutbacks, but thankfully we haven't been affected in the federal gov't yet - we've actually hired 3 new attorneys in the last few months.
