The Gap has to be kidding......

I took the kids shopping tonight - both needed jeans for school. All the Gap has is their new 19whatever line of denim.

So I grab a bunch in different sizes and styles and I have Ava trying them on. My mouth was literally on the floor. I am appalled.

They are so low cut in the front I can't believe it. SHE IS 5 YEARS OLD!!!!! What is the reasoning behind this? Why does she need to look like a hootchie momma at this age. I don't want her pants jacked up to her neck but good lord.......

I mentioned this to the girls at the register and apparently they said the same thing to the higher ups at a recent meeting. I feel a lot better knowing they noticed it too and I'm not just some crazy mom.

I can't stand the clothes for girls. I hate everything. Its all so mature and ugh - I can't deal.

Whatever happened to letting kids be KIDS???

Re: The Gap has to be kidding......

Lori, you are encountering what I encountered last year. Ava is the size where the clothes start to change. All of a sudden there are lots of hoochie items available for little girls when they get past the "T" sizes. I have seen shorts with 1/2 inch inseams for 7 year olds. W T eff? What 7 year old needs booty shorts? Even in stores like Target, if you go from the toddler dept into the girls dept, you will see much different cuts on some items.Good thing is there are so many brands that still make nice, age appropriate items. I find plenty of stuff I am comfortable letting T wear. No way am I letting my DD wear anything inappropriate either. Bad enough they start to get leered at by guys and adult men younger and younger these days, no need to attract the pedophiles too.

Liz - I can't stand it. Its awful. And I did see a pair of those shorts and wanted to die. I can't understand stores like Old Navy and Gap. The stuff in 5T is adorable, fashion forward and appropriate. Why can't they make that in a bigger size or do some sort of spin-off. I am really having trouble finding age appropriate clothing.

Where should I go????

I have the same problem with my two girls (10 and 7). It truly is digusting the way the clothes are made now. My oldest is the only one who will wear jeans. I ended up finding Lee's and Levi's at Kohls for a decent price, I did have to have them hemmed though (she wears a 10, but can never find anything that is not too long.).

Got the same problem going on here too! My other side to it, is that D wants to look 'rock star', so it's hard to find a compromise of what she thinks is 'rock star' and what I don't find disgusting!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am not ready for this! I want cute back!

Re: The Gap has to be kidding......

ITA! I bought all of Ava's (6) school clothes this year at Osh Kosh at Tanger Deer Park. The prices were great, and the clothes were adorable and very appropriate. The jeans were made for girls, not teens. Ava is a 6x/7, put they have up tp a size 12.

They also has a ton of adorable dresses with leggings that I love. She does have Justice and other Brands like it, but I find myself steering away from them.
