The more research I have been doing...
the angrier I am getting!!!!
I have been doing on search on previous posts to see if other ladies have been in the situation I am in (see my earlier post) and it seems to me that all the other doctors have found it normal not to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks.....
Why did my doctor already schedule a D & C when he didnt see a heartbeat at 6 weeks even though we saw a yolk sac???!!!!!
Am I just crazy?....or is my doctor a real arse....
Why did I even get a sono at 6 weeks when I dont have a history of m/c or any bleeding or anything....
This is why doctors shouldnt do sonos earlier than 8 weeks!!!

I'm not sure, but I think you're right. It wasn't right to present the worst case scenario to you with so little evidence and so early on.
I hate to suggest this, but maybe you might want to switch physicians?

Re: The more research I have been doing...
How are your numbers?
Your doctor maybe jumping the gun. Most doctors wont see a patient until they are 8 weeks because a heartbeat may not be seen prior to then. My actual appointment was scheduled for Jan 25 which I would be 8 weeks. The only reason I had gone in sooner is because I wasnt feeling well and was worried about being dehydrated.
When is your next appt?

Have you considered going to a different doctor for a different opinion. Also you should tell the doctor you are not comfortable with the scheduled d&c that you would rather that not be hanging over your head.
Many for you

I also agree with switching Drs...you are early enough where that is possible. I would also check to see what your numbers are.

Re: The more research I have been doing...
This is a serious situation and I really think that you should go to another doctor. I think you need a second opinion. I personally agree with you, that doctors should not see you before 8 weeks pg. Both pregnancies I did not go before 8 weeks. I went at w0 weeks with DS#1 and 8 1/2 weeks with this pregnancy. It will ease your mind to go to another doctor.

I would get a 2nd opinon. I think you need to switch doctors. If you question anything and you don't feel comfortable - switch!
I'm sorry this is happening to you!!

I would suggest a second opinion. There is nothing to lose by getting one.

If you are not happy with your care switch doctors or get a second opinion. There is nothing wrong with that and you are more than entitled. You are your own best advocate!!

Re: The more research I have been doing...
i think i was 7 weeks when i went for my first sono (and my dr even said if you make the sono earlier than 8 weeks and i dont see a heartbeat he told me NOT to freak out because this is common) we did see a heartbeat but i was prepared not to ~ have you been going to your dr for a long time? I also agree maybe you should switch dr's...

Re: The more research I have been doing...
Stephy- I mentioned in the other thread that he is a complete arse for putting you through this! It is way too soon to jump to any conclusions like that! I saw NOTHING on the sonogram at 5 weeks and he was like "don't worry, it's too early" and I was freaking out. 4 days later we saw the sac and yolk sac so don't worry. But I would think hard about how much you like this doctor

Re: The more research I have been doing...
As I mentioned to you I am surprised that your doctor mentioned a D & C. To me it is something that would stress you out and possibly for no reason at all. This is such a crucial time for you that to put you under any unnecessary stress just seems like bad practice. My doctor won't see anyone until 7-8 weeks because of exactly what you are going through. They won't see anything before 7 weeks other than a sac. And for your doctor to wait 2 weeks because he is going on vacation is just wrong. I would not stay with a doctor like this. And I would go somewhere else this week and get a sono and more blood work. If your numbers a good than I believe that is a very good sign.

Honestly Steph.... I thought that from minute one.
Why don't you start looking around and seeing if you can't get yourself another OB?

here's a site that helps explain beta levels: beta levels during pregnancy
the range of acceptable beta levels is huge.... It has much more to do with seeing the levels increase 2-3 days later
If you were tested 2-3 days earlier, and your results at that time were roughly 8000, you're totally on track and normal.
hope this helps...

Re: The more research I have been doing...
I would definitely switch drs before doing anything. We did IVF and when we went for our first preggo sono they said usually you see a heartbeat by 6 weeks but sometimes not until 7. Your EDD can also be off too...I think 6 weeks is too early to schedule a DNC if there is no heartbeat. After 8 weeks is probably more like it. Good Luck and your HCG # sounds good

Re: The more research I have been doing...
He should not be giving you any more sonos. You should be monitored every 2-3 days with bloodwaork. He is probably worried about ectopic preg. but the blood work would indicate that. I would NOT get a D & C but I would ask for concurrent bloodwork to see what is happening both with your hcg and progesterone. Good luck
