Re: The New Shea stadium...
They said "Mets Ballpark" is the official name?
I didn't think they actually named it yet... and just used Mets Ballpark as a temporay name for the design.
But the park looks great!

Don't be surprised if we end up going to 'Banco Popular Stadium' in 2009.

Expensive. But I don't care.
I have season tickets right now... which I intend on holding on to. I figure once the new ballpark opens... they will give the current season ticket holders first dibs on season tickets for the new stadium.

Re: The New Shea stadium...
It looks amazing. The press release says that the Mets will construct the ballpark at their own expense, which makes me hopeful that we will not end up with a corporately named ball park. I would be very happy if it actually ends up being called "Mets Ballpark."
One impt. question: Where the heck are we going to park?! By 2009, I don't think I will still be in walking distance of the stadium!

It will get a corporate name. They are currently looking for a sponsor.
The stadium is being built by MOSTLY Mets funds. Approximately 160mil is coming from the city. But under the current agreement with Shea... the city is actually responsible for maintaining the stadium. Once the new ballpark gets built... the Mets take over the maintenance of the stadium which will actually save the city money over the long run.
Parking will be pretty bad until the new park gets built. Shortly after the park gets built... Shea will get demolished to regain some parking.
If you need to get to Shea... i suggest taking the train.

Re: The New Shea stadium...
I can't wait for the new park to open. I was wondering - do you think they'll bring the Home Run "apple" over?

Of course they will. Do you even think to ask this?

Re: The New Shea stadium...
I would like the name "Shea" to appear somewhere, if even for only a pavillion or something. If it wasn't for Bill Shea, National League baseball would not have returned to NY.
I also want to make sure that Veteran's stays somewhere near the name of the revamped Nassau Coliseum.

I just saw a drawing of the stadium on Newsday in "The Fold". Looks like the apple is there!

I saw the news story on sportsnet last night after I posted. I'm bummed that they looking for a corporate sponsor and that Shea will be knocked down, even though neither are at all surprising.
