The official DebG photoshoot thread

Here’s the scoop. Christine/CkGm has stepped forward to book appointments for me. You must FM her directly for a time. I’ve given her all of the times that I’m available.

Summer dates will be scheduled after the spring shoots are finished.

Location: Will be in different locations in the Huntington/Northport area & will be handled via FM for mom/baby security.

Photoshoots are now $40 and must be paid at the time of the shoot. You can either paypal her beforehand (NEW EMAIL ADDRESS TO PAYPAL IS [email protected] ) or write a check, made payable to her to be given to me AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOT. I will not take cash, I don’t want the responsibility or worry.

FAQ:
How long is the photoshoot?
Photoshoots take anywhere from 20-60 minutes, sometimes longer depending on when the next baby is scheduled & how your baby is feeling.

Can I bring….my husband, my dog, my mom, my pregnant sister?
The time is yours. Bring anyone you want but it may cut into the number of your shots.

What will I get for my $40?
All you get is photos. You may get a photo you love, you may not. We can only both hope for the best, but I will try my best. I’ll send you a link to your photos on kodakgallery.com. From there, you can print out photos, buy a cd, etc. If you need the original file of a FEW photos, I will gladly email them to you.

What should I bring for the photoshoot?
If you have an infant, bring the car seat & a blanket large enough to cover the carseat. Solid colors are usually better. Also bring a blanket that can be put on the ground.

Can I bring more than one outfit?
Yes. You can change your baby as much as you want, but when the next person shows up for their appointment, we need to finish. Also the more changes a baby had, the crankier they get.

What if my baby is sleeping?
I’ll take photos of a sleeping baby until they wake up. That’s why appointments are booked for 45min-1 hour.

Will you share my private information?
Yes. I'm going to share it with all of my friends. Let's start with your social security number & your mother's maiden name.

Will you share my pictures with anyone?
No. Not without your permission. I may FM you later to ask if I can show them to PrincessMarissa because we swap ideas on poses. I may also add a photo I like to my favorites on Kodakgallery. I will not post a photo unless you ask me. If you hate a picture I took but want to share the album, FM me & I could delete it for you.

What kind of camera do you have?
Nikon D70 with a 300mm lens.

What type of camera should I buy?
Any digital SLR, preferably Nikon or Canon. It will be the last camera you will buy.

Where should I buy one?
B&H Photo seems to have the best prices IMO. If you are willing to take a used camera, you should check out the open box specials for the best prices. Note the condition of the camera before purchasing. Some of the cameras are returns. Some are actually used.I believe it will come with a warranty.

What training do you have?
None. At all. I took a high school photography course but have long since forgotten what an f-stop is or anything else camera related. In fact if you ask me questions about what a focal point is my eyes will glaze over & it will interfere with my focus.

Will you teach me photography?
See above. I will explain to you why I take a picture the way I do & give pointers.

Can you convince my husband to buy a digital SLR?
Perhaps. He would be one of many DHs that sprung for a digital SLR after taking pictures with my camera.

Will you take photos of my child’s first birthday? What about a christening?
I can’t. Well I can but I won’t. This is to help out Deb. There many brilliant photographers listed in the Business Directory Link & the side banner.

Why are you doing this?
It started out that I would take photos for anyone who asked because I love it & wanted the practice. I’m uncomfortable with accepting money for it and had many thank you gift certificates. DebG was looking for a work from home opportunity while undergoing chemo & radiation. I thought it would be a win-win situation for everyone if I offered to take photos for donations for her.

I’m new to the site, who is DebG?
DebG is an LIF member, who was diagnosed at 30 weeks pregnant with brain tumor. It was later confirmed to be adenoid cystic carcinoma. Once she's feeling better, she's required to get her azz up to NY for her own photoshoot but she'll have to donate to baby Joey.

Barb - what do you think about us bringing a memory card to save you the time/hassle of uploading or emailing pics? At the end of the shoot, you just give the memory card back.

Depending on what cameras people have, they may not even need a different card (I know a bunch of people on here have the same camera as you) It saves you time and gives them the original files.

Thoughts? You can still upload for those that don't want to bring cards.

eta: I don't think I'll be able to participate this time around, since the photoshoot is the same days as Alec's Run.
