Re: The official unemployment thread
I was laid off in december 09. I have been on unemployment since then. I did not get any hits on my resume at ALL for months(and in the past have always gotten a few interviews when looking. 2 weeks ago I got 3 calls in one week. There is a position checking my references right now so we'll see if I get the offer.

I have been unemployed since August 2009. This is the second time that I was let go from a position in two years. The year before I was a victim of a mass layoff at a job I was at for 8.5 years. Then I got this job in August 08, and was let go 1 year lat5er.
It is rough being unemployed. I am going to school full time so that fills a lot of my day. I go to a SUNY school online and will be finishing with my BS degree in Business and Marketing this summer.
My wife and I are doing work to our house and living with her mother. We have been here since the end of october. That is another stressful situation, and added to that stress, Danielle is also pregnant. She is due in July. We are hoping to be back in our home by June the latest.
Everything all happened at once. We put in the plans for a permit, I lost my job, and then we found out we were having a baby...Which is amazing.
Danielle has really been good about me not having a job now. It has been very stressful, but we are dealing with it. Scott
Scott - I found out I was pregnant the same time my DH was laid off. You guys will make it! It will be ok

Re: The official unemployment thread
I've been unemployed since Aug 09, in the beginning it wasn't bad because we were at the last stretch of wedding planning and I had my yearly seasonal job to keep me busy. But now the wedding has passed (Jan) and its getting a little depressing with no calls coming in and my resume going out. The only good thing is I am able to collect unemployment along with working PT at WW.

Re: The official unemployment thread
Awesome news Melissa....CONGRATS
Scott....I got laid off in 2006 right after I informed my job I was preggo with my first child it ended up being a blessing in disguise as I was able to stay home with the baby for far longer than I ever would have had I been required to return to work.
I then got a great job and was let go 1 year later as well Again turned out to be the best thing for my child.....he needed EI services and we had 3 people a day coming to my home to work with him. No way we would've been able to do all that for him had I been working.
So I've been out of work since August 2008!! The market su cks so bad right now that I took a p/t job in my field, but make soooo little that unemployment still has to make up the difference. I took the job to keep my foot in the door of the field and for some sanity DS is now in school f/t so it works out well. I am currently expecting #2 and hoping that they turn me f/t next year otherwise I can't see paying for daycare for a newborn when I'm making the same $$ as if I stayed home and collected
The most frustrating thing in the world is knowing what you want to do and knowing that you're good at it and not being able to get a job
eta: I also have a counseling private practice which I also keep to maintain my skills and sanity. Some months I have 4 clients and some I have 1 client. Can't depend on the income at all.

Re: The official unemployment thread
I have been unemployed since February of 2009- over a year now. I have been free lancing to make ends meet, but I haven't worked in two months. DH works 7 days a week, leaves at 3 or 4 in the morning and gets home after 9:00 (or doesnt come home at all for two days), but he takes NO PAYCHECK! He has a family business that is barely surviving. So not only is e never home, but he is not even making money. I am also pregnant with our second child and due in June.
I am an Interior Designer and architectural illustrator. When I get free-lance jobs it is not enough to pay the mortgage anymore. :( After baby #2 is born I will still have to work as much as possible. I do all-nighters when I have projects because they are always tight schedules. I sent out resumes, but haven't heard back anything.
I am happy that there is a place where I can vent about this.
Good luck to eveyone!

Re: The official unemployment thread
i've been looking for three months and have had only two face to face interviews and one phone interview so i can totally relate to your DH. I bet my DH is frustrated with my search too. There was only two new jobs posted this week for my field.

i've been keeping in touch with friends from work. over the past year three of them have been promoted. while i'm happy for them it makes me feel even worse on some level. i guess b/c i feel like i've only gone backward!

Re: The official unemployment thread
Bummed out here..
DH was thisclose to an offer - they were checking his references then came back and said they were "going in a different direction"
I've been holding it together for a while...but I am getting very worried now. I really thought we would be over this hump by now. Everything he goes for he either doesn't hear back or gets to the final stage and doesn't get it.
