Kelly - yeah that's life.

The interview went really well. I met with the HR manager and also the Sales Manager. The job is to be a car detailer for Karp Volvo, Kia, Saab, and Buick. Tomorrow I am meeting with the detailing manager and I may have to show him that I can detail cars...lol.

I have some questions. I have heard of this happening and it scares me. Let's say you haven't found anything yet. You have been actively looking, going on a few interviews that you get called back on and still nothing... Your 52 weeks is up. Let's say you can't file a new claim... what the HECK do you do? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I edited this post bc I just found out that depending on when you filed your claim - some people are only allowed 52-60 weeks.

Hang in there guys. DH was out since Oct 09 and after hundreds of job applications and a few close to an offer jobs, he finally got one.

He used a lot of networking including the Ladders.

Re: The official unemployment thread

I just came back from an interview and it wasn't great. The office was in the basement in a building and when I got in there, it was just from hunger. It kind of reminded me of an office the Arnold Diaz would bust into because they were doing shady things. I just had a bad vibe. The guy that interviewed me had a lot of comments about my resume. I was at my last job for 12 years and before then I had a lot of temp jobs. I explained to him that I went to unemployment for a resume class and they told me to limit the resume to 1 page and have your most recent job because that's what potential employers are going to look at. He said that I got bad advice Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know the whole place just creeped me out.

At the end of this month I will have reached my max. I no longer have health benefits either. I know my union will find a job for me eventually, but how can I go to a job that will have good wages and be hired.... temporarily. I'm not leaving my union, but I can't not get a check either. I'll probably have to go to a grocery store or sales position that I won't mind leaving in a heartbeat.

Re: The official unemployment thread

I have been unemployed since March 2010..It actually came as a blessing but a little early for us since I am expecting DS#2 & would have been leaving my position in September. I was with my company 11 years.

Does anyone else live in Nassau County & keep getting letters from the Department of Labor to go to workshops? I had to go to one when I was originally laid off & now I just got one for a "Job placement"? Does anyone know what to expect?

Re: The official unemployment thread

i've been unemployed since march 2009. i was upset about it because i hated my job and figured i would be part of the cutbacks. went back to school- best decision ever- and just completed my masters in elem ed and spec ed. now i just have to find a teaching job! HA! i have been collecting and its been over a year now. worried that it's going to run out soon, and i have an 8 week old.

i dont know what to do. i am optimistic about a teaching job but realistic enough to know it probably will be later than sooner with the market. i dont want to take a nothing job and have to pay money to put my DD into daycare- with most jobs it won't 'pay' to do that, costing as much money to have her in daycare as my check would be.

luckily my DH can work overtime to boost our income but it worries me! there was a time that i was upset we didnt have a house, but now its a saving grace.

best of luck to everyone!

Re: The official unemployment thread

Just an FYI for some that didn't hear the most recent news.

Congress Passes and President Signs Unemployment Extension (Updated for the week of July 19, 2010)
Legislation was approved by Congress on July 22, 2010 extending eligibility deadlines for benefit extensions to November 28, 2010. Please continue to claim weekly benefits in the usual manner, unless you have received instructions to file a new claim. Claimants whose benefits had stopped because they were not able to begin receiving EUC by the week ending June 6, 2010, or were not able to move to a new Tier of EUC or collect Extended Benefits starting on the week ending June 13, 2010, will receive payment in their account by the middle of next week for back weeks claimed. The new legislation does not extend the additional $25 weekly payment, known as Federal Additional Compensation or FAC, for individuals who file a new claim on or after May 31, 2010. For updates on benefit extensions, continue visiting this website. For an estimate of the number of weeks you may be currently eligible for, see Benefits Calculator or Chart
