Re: the rates keep going up and we're not locked in yet

the attorney said to hold off for right now, I guess just in case it gets postponed longer. The sellers want to try and close on this house and their new house as close together as possible. They were already supposed to close last week, but it didn't happen..
I told the attorney to please let me know asap so we can lock in

We locked in and our closing got extended. We paid a fee to extend the locked rate and kept that rate. It was a few hundred $ to keep the rate a bit longer but worth it in the long run.

when is your on our about date? your lock in would be for 30 days and you could always extend it for $. lawyers like for you to wait so you don't have to worry about it running out just before closing. they feel brokers try to lock in you so quickly to secure your business. you need to do what you are comfortable with. discuss with your broker your contract dates.

the mtg broker wants to wait because she sees it happen to so many people, that they get locked in, and then they dont close within the 30 days..
it started at 5.625 now its around 5.9.. i know its not huge, but it will be a lot for us.

You should have found a bank that would give you more than a 30 day rate lock.

I had a 90 day rate lock from Chase.
