"The Secret"
Ok, so did anyone read it? I mean the press hype is amazing, but Is it really a "Secret" or a media made mess?

Re: "The Secret"
I think Oprah showcased it last week and apparently it's flying off the shelves and Amazon ever since...typical of an Oprah recommendation. I myself haven't seen it nor will I, most likely.

Re: "The Secret"
I have to admit, I am curious after all the buzz but almost every book that Oprah has liked, I am not crazy about.

Re: "The Secret"
You know, I was just looking this up.
I went to a meeting last week sponsored by my company, it's part of a training program called Women Empowered. Now this woman who worked for my company, Executive Senior Vice President of Shared Services (she's no slouch!) suggested that everyone either read it or watch the DVD. She showed us part of the DVD...it looked very interesting but she basically gave us the jist of it, so maybe you don't have to spend the $30 for the DVD.
What she says she did, based on the book/DVD, was make a list of the 10 things she wanted most. Could be anything. And you make this list by starting out with:
I am feeling grateful and (a happy adjective, i.e. exuberant) _______________________ (just fill in the blank) Example:
I am feeling grateful and happy that I have a positive attitude.
I am feeling grateful and ecstatic that I'm at my goal weight.
You make the statements like they've already happened, not like they are things in the future. She says she actually created a journal with each "wish" having its own page and actually cut out pictures of things that reminded her of the wish and pasted them in her journal. Supposedly if you make this list, and read your wishes every day, you wishes come true, without you really having to do anything. You allow the positive energy to come in. Your wishes come true in 12-24 months.
I'm thinking of doing this. Couldn't hurt, right?

Re: "The Secret"
Someone sent it to me in a gift basket. I don't know...there is only ONE thing that I would make my mantra and that would be to be cancer free.
Do you really think JUST believing in being cancer free would actually make it happen? Seems shady to me.

I dont think its as simple as that and I dont think serious illness falls into the category of the book. ITs more about mindframe then a "specific " want or need.
I'm gonna read for the heck of it. Although I hate media hype.
I thought the one GOODpoint I heard was when they used war etc as an example.
The guy said what sounds better "The war on terrorism" ...OR " World Peace"
If you constantly say WAR , WAR, Terrorism,Terrorism....What you get is Terror and fear and concentration on negative thoughts.....If you think peace, peace, peace...you are thinking of ways to find peace and your words tend to lend to thoughts much less abrasive then WAR.
Will it CREATE peace....NO...and thats NOT what they are are saying...Its the umderstanding of the "concept" and how it plays into the big picture of your life...
Simple concept yet SO MANY of us are totally lost on understanding it...and I agree there 100%.

Re: "The Secret"
I enjoyed the book... take it for what it is.
Ever since I read the book though... I notice people that are constanly complaining... usually DONT have good things coming to them. Hmm makes you think.
