The Tiny bugs I found in the pastina box...

Remember I posted about that a couple of days ago? Well I called and left them a message and they called me back today. The woman told me that it's possible that the bugs where from the supermarket shelves. Which kind of makes sense. She said that I should inform the store manage about that. She was really nice to me and said that she will send me a replacement coupon.

I find bugs a lot in the pasta boxes if I don't use them within I would say 6 months or so.

Re: The Tiny bugs I found in the pastina box...

They're called indian meal worms according to my exterminator. I freaked the first time I found them in a box of pasta. Be careful if you found them b/c they can get into everything in your kitchen/pantry. They come in from the supermarket in a box and then spread Chat Icon They like any type of grains so you can get them in pasta, cereals, rice. Anything in a box is easy b/c it's not really sealed.

This reminded me...when i was about 10 years old, my mom bought a box of cheerios (before plastic was inside the box)...when we opened to pour it out, there were tons of worms..like mealworm looking things clinging to the box and inside it and the cereal came out like dust. To this day i can't really eat cheerios..although I know now the plastic protector layer prob prevents that!

I'll have a pasta fear period. Now I have to be cautious with every box of pasta I open. I always have a habit of just pouring it into pot from the box. Never thought tiny bugs would come flying out. My mom always pours the pasta onto a dish before putting it into the pot. Duh I guess I don't have to ask why...Chat Icon

I don't like Ronzoni pasta. I know what your'e thinking pasta is pasta. But seriously there is a difference in taste. The pastina from Ronzoni has a diffierent taste to it. Can't explain it.

Oh it happens.... My mom is neurotic about it, and I inherited her sense of neurosis Chat Icon Everything that is bought in boxes that may be stored for some time in a cabinet or pantry is put into plastic tupperware containers, especially cereals, oatmeal, flour, sugar and pasta. Also, we don't do it because we buy the big super pack from Costco, but my mom used to unwrap the TP when she came home from the store because little bugs would burrow into that from the store shelves and she didn't want it in the house.

Re: The Tiny bugs I found in the pastina box...

A couple months ago I cooked me up some pasta and bugs.

I didn't notice it until I had eaten some. Chat Icon

When I went through my cabinet where I keep the pasta, I found that they were in EVERYTHING!!

Cereal, breadcrumbs, rice and all my pastas. They were all dead, but still.

I threw everything out and started over and now EVERYTHING goes in those tall Tupperware containers so I don't freak out again.
