The triplets on Dr. Phil
Did anyone see this episode??
Deaf-blind triplets. WOW. My heart aches for those precious kids, and their mom. and even the older sister.
Really puts things into perspective.

I didn't see it but I saw the commercial for it. Can I ask were they that way due to being born prematurely?

Re: The triplets on Dr. Phil
They are now 6.
The mom said shortly after birth she learned that one after the other was blind. and she dealt with that and was traumatized, and then I think at age 2, she learned that they were deaf also.
I watched it while feeding the baby and the boys were running around, so I didnt catch details, but I think that's correct.
Dr. Phil helped set them up with someone to work with them privately, and also for them to attend the same schoo Helen Keller attended. Dr.Phil said it well, this is so many things, fascinating, tragic, sad, heroic..
It brought tears to my eyes to see their mom go through so much, to see the older sisiter feel lonely, and to see these precious girls, unable to communicate with the world around them. just heartbreaking.
Too bad we cant email DVR'd shows across cable boxes. I definitely hope to see an update on them.
there's a documentary on them. I forgot the title. I think it's "THrough their eyes".

I believe they said something about the deafness possibly being caused by a medication they were given in the hospital as newborns. It was only speculation though.

Re: The triplets on Dr. Phil
I saw bits and pieces of this. it really touched me. I can't even imagine how hard it is for all of them. I think it's wonderful that Dr. Phil set them up with therapy for 2 years that normally costs 50K per child for one year. You could tell the mother was so overjoyed!

Re: The triplets on Dr. Phil
This story did put things in perspective, but it was still heartbreaking. When the mom was crying it broke my heart. When she said " I could deal with the blindness, but being deaf and thinking that maybe they thought their mom stopped talking to them"...ugh...I lost it.
It made me count my blessings.
