Therapist for me
DS is going to wind up with an ASD diagnosis. I am 100% blaming myself and I'm finding myself becoming short with him in certain situations, which began after discussing all this at his well visit with his ped. I think I need to talk to someone. I'm in Suffolk, south shore. Thanks.

Therapist for me
When you get services, they can refer you to a counselor. I'm in Nassau and at the first EI meeting to get DS services, they gave us family training and asked if we wanted couples or individual couseling referals.

Thanks. He's already getting services (not over the summer, but going into an integrated program in September). Would I call the district?

Is the integrated program in a school? Ds's school has a social worker assigned to a class. They call the parents a couple weeks before the end begins to discuss any concerns, etc. You can meet with them to discuss any questions and also inquire about counseling.

Re: Therapist for me
I got a fabulous licensed clinical social worker from early intervention. Are you near great neck at all? She comes to my house twice a month. Amazing. I had been seeing a PsyD but honestly she was not familiar at all with having a special needs child, the terminology etc so I felt I was educating her the whole time. Some people think that psychologists are "better" counsellors than LCSWs but honestly in this case I found the opposite to be true. You need someone who gets it, someone who knows the acronyms, the process etc so you aren't explaining yourself the whole time. Plus if you get it from EI, it's free! Best of luck.
Sorry reread your post and you couldnt be farther from great neck, lol. But nonetheless all your service coordinator and request a social worker !

It's through ACLD. I'll bring it up early in the year. Thanks for your help!
