There are egg yolks in Ben& Jerry's Ice Cream
And in Hagen Daaz too. That means we can't have it, right? Or does freezing kill any potential bacteria? I usually don't like ice cream, so its never been an issue, but DH has some in the freezer & it looks kinda good.

Egg yolks are needed to make ice cream...I don't think ice cream has ever been banned from a pregnant woman's diet.

I looked it up on the Ben and Jerry's website...
"We do not use raw eggs in our product. As do all commercial ice cream makers, we use only eggs that have been pasteurized. Our base mix (with the eggs as a part of that mix) is put through a HTST, High Temperature Short Time, pasteurization process which kills salmonella and other disease organisms that can sometimes be present in raw eggs."
now I want some ice cream!!!!:

I never eat Haagen Dasz or Ben & Jerry's because DH is allergic to eggs.
Turkey Hill is not made with eggs if you're nervous but are still craving ice cream!

I guess a lot of us would be in danger then, I thought it was a big thing for preggo's to eat a lot of icecream and pickles--lol I wouldn't worry, just don't eat to much of it.

Thanks for all of the info- esp from the Ben & Jerry's web site (good for future ref.). I knew Turkey Hill & Breyers were egg-free, but we had B&J & HagenDaaz. I ended up leaving to see a client & didn't eat the ice cream either way.

If that is the case I am in big trouble. All I crave is ice cream. In fact I have four containers of Ben and Jerry's in the freezer now!

I just realized, not only did I eat Ben and Jerry's all weekend... but I had the worst flavor and just thought of it... I had Chocolate Chip COOKIE DOUGH! AHHHH. I just realized, cookie dough at the very least must have raw eggs???? OMG! Oh well, can't go back now, one more thing to tell the doc tomorrow... I didn't even think of it when I ate it... How stupid of me

Ice Cream is fine to eat. The eggs are pasteurized and heated up to kill any bacteria before being used in the recipes. Eat Away!!
