Just got back from San Fran, Wine Country and Big Sur.
Can't pinpoint one thing that was the best. It was all good.
San Fran will be a bit chilly. LA will be hot and Napa/Sonoma will be beautiful. All wineries will be open.
We loved Pier 39 in San fran along with the seals and a catamaran ride under the Golden Gate bridge.
We drove south to Big Sur for a wedding and I have to say I've never seen anything more beautiful than the cliff and the ocean along the pacific coast highway. Rent a convertible.

What's there NOT to do in L.A.? LOL
Beaches ... Santa Monica, Venice (great boardwalk), Manhattan.
Beverly Hills and the whole Hollywood area - Grauman's Chinese theater and the walk of fame, as well as the big Hollywood and Highlaa nd complex (great view of the Hollywood sign)
Disneyland OF COURSE!
One of my fave places to go is the Getty Center getty.edu It has all kinds or art and architecture and gardens and is breathtaking and beautiful.
Lots of great restaurants and museums as well!
Have a fantastic trip!

Lots of stuff to do in LA that people have already mentioned:
Santa Monica - walk along Third Street and shop, then walk down to the Pier. Great restaurants down there. There's also good shopping on Montana Ave there.
Hollywood- Chinese theater, the Hollywood and Highland complex, Griffith Park (where you can see the Hollywood sign), go on a "star" tour or get a star map, lots of bars and clubs.
Venice Beach, Malibu (good restaurants - Gladstones and Geoffrey's - both right on the water). Drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and look at all of the houses and mountains.
Disney, Magic Mountain and Knotts Berry Farms are all not too far if you're into amusement parks.
You can do studio tours like NBC or Paramount. Stand on line for Price is Right tickets.
Trying to think what else we do there - we go there around 3-4 times a year.
Nightlife on the Sunset strip....
