Thinking ahead... road trip ideas for spring break (Easter week)?
This year we drove up to Niagara Falls for Easter week and had a ball, I'm looking for more unique ideas, preferably somewhere between LI and Maryland (we're from Maryland but will be on LI for Easter).
I checked into Aquatopia and Kalahari and they're both $500/night
Any other ideas of places that would be fun in April and won't break the bank?

We went to aquatopia last year and saved a ton by renting a condo thru camelback resort rentals. You can get free passes to the water park and you can buy additional for $45 each.

Wait... what??? That sounds awesome, where would I find info on this? I assume the condos aren't directly connected to the water park?

Camelback Mountain Resort Rentals
Try the link above. You have to drive to the waterpark but over spring break the weather is nice and it's not that big of a deal. The rentals are right up the street. They give you a certain number of passes but you can buy more for $45 each at the watermark. You just need to have at least one of the free passes left. So if they give you 4 and you want to go twice, use two free passes and buy two more each day. It was so much cheaper. I think we paid $165 a night for a two bedroom plus loft with a full kitchen. It was clean and nice. Such a better deal.

Thanks so much.
It doesn't seem to like my dates (April 2-6) it says no properties found, try a less restrictive search. I wonder if I'm too early?

Re: Thinking ahead... road trip ideas for spring break (Easter week)?
All the waterparks (and just about every vacation destination) is jacked up during school holidays. So I don't know if you will find "affordable". Maybe try Hershey...they do Springtime in the Park, but I'm not sure if the park is open. The Hershey Hotel has a newish indoor small waterpark area.
Or try the Cape Codder, they have an indoor waterpark.

You can also look for a more affordable hotel in the area and get day passes for Kahlahari....

It's funny I was thinking the same, but the resort we love on the gulf coast actually wasn't so bad on rates. They were SLIGHTLY higher than normal, but nothing out of control. And the airfare on SW was about the same as usual too. Maybe because we are looking to go Wed after Easter to Sunday before school starts back up. Maybe most people fly out earlier to take advantage of the whole week off

No it's probably too early. I would call them. There are a ton of condos there - there was tons of availability when we went and we booked it about two weeks prior. It's not really a popular spring break destination but we had a great time - tons of stuff to do between the waterpark and all of the other things in the hotel or nearby.

Hershey lodge midweek last spring break was about $225 - $250 which wasn't too bad however the park is not open weekdays that time of year - only weekends. on the weekend it jumped to over $400 a night. There are other hotels in the area but we specifically wanted to be able to use the indoor water park at the lodge.

That's why....because you are leaving mid week half way into Spring Break. That is how I usually try to book things if I'm going on a Holiday week, cheaper!

Sorry to keep picking your brain on this, I was digging around the site to see what there is to do besides the indoor waterpark and it looked like ziplining and some kind of mountain coaster, my kids might be a little too young (4 and 7) for that, are there other things in the general area? Or are there things at Camelback for little ones in the spring that I'm missing?
This is definitely what I'm looking for, going somewhere no one else goes and it's cheap and close to home, we are doing Disney, the Outer Banks, and a cruise in 2018 so this trip can't break the bank

No prob! I am happy to help! The mountain coaster will be fine for your 4 & 7 year old. You will probably have to ride with them but they will be allowed on. In the hotel there is also bowling, a huge arcade, laser tag, a paint your own pottery place, a ropes course and mini golf. They also do a craft area with the kids every morning. There are outlets nearby - not great for the kids although there is a small playground! I feel like there were other things nearby - maybe caverns or something that we didn't do. You can easily spend two days at the waterpark alone. The buffet at the hotel is actually really good and reasonably priced for breakfast and dinner. I don;t think I would spend a full week there but for 4 days it's perfect.

Thinking ahead... road trip ideas for spring break (Easter week)?
We spent 2 nights at Aquatopia over the Summer. They sell a pass for the ropes course, rock wall, mini golf, laser maze, and laser tag. I want to say it was like $40 each for the 2 nights. My kids loved that. We didn't do the mountain coaster or zip lining. Looks too scary to me. The waterpark kept us busy, but just know that there are a lot of scary slides there geared toward older kids. The kids play area was fun, and they have 2 small slides that pretty much anyone can go on. The larger stuff just depends on your children's "scare factor". The lazy river was awesome! The place is a money pit, everything is extra...the arcade is a rip off, like $2 for many of the games! I rarely saw many people in it. I said if they lower the price, more people would go! Overall we had a good time though. But, I think Kalahari or Great Wolf are probably better for a 4 year old.

Great wolf is probably better for a 4 year old but you can't get in unless you pay the ridiculous prices for the hotel rooms. Kalahari doesn't seem to have as much to do as Aquatopia and if you stay off property the day passes are ridiculously expensive so you are stuck paying the $500+ prices per night to stay there. I looked into all of these for spring break last year. All arcades are a rip off but I didn't find the other extras to be that bad compared to what you would pay at home.
Vacations are just so crazy out of control expensive. I honestly don't know how most people do it because we are financially pretty well off, although trying to conserve money right now, and the prices make me want to cry some times.

You would think that with 3 of them in the same radius, the prices would have come down a bit! But, they really haven't, it's a shame!
