Thinking of buying an SLR.. gimme your opinions on the best
Totally not up to par on what's what.
I'd like to get something worth the money but not spend over $1000
I was looking at Nikons... 60 80 or 90 but I would love comments on others..
Thanks!!

Originally, I was only looking at the Canon rebel SLR, but then I decided to go for the Nikon D60. I got a very good deal. 699 for the camera and two lenses. I love it...it's a lot of fun to play with and it takes great pictures. You can probably get it for even cheaper now. I saw the same package for 650 about 2 weeks after I bought it. I used ritzcamera.com

I just got the Canon Rebel SLR and I LOVE it!
I believe my DH and Dad (it was a joint gift for Christmas) got a deal with 2 lens and the camera for something like $549

We have the Nikon D90 and love it, but that would be out of your budget. I would highly recommend the D40 or the D60.

i really want the nikon d90..its expensive but i feel like if i decided on one of the other ones, id want to upgrade in a year or so anyways so i might as well just buy the better one now...its also the only one with video and a lot of upgraded features
check on youtube for reviews on any of the ones you are thinking about...but if you are thinking about buying it def research the best prices because best buy has it for like $1200..meanwhile i found it at some photo stores sites for about half the price

See that's the thing.. I'd hate to buy one then one year later spend MORE money buying another.. sorta doesnt justify the cost anymore if you have to spend MORE money, ya know?

thats exactly how i feel and there are some big improvements from the d40 to the d90 so i would def just splurge the extra money now and go for the better one, so you arent upgrading in a year or so

I have the Nikon D60 and I love it. It's smaller than the D80 which a big reason I got it.

I don't know anyone who has the d40 (and I know a lot of people who have it) who upgraded after a year. Most people are very happy with them.
I kind of feel like you can wait forever to get the newest or the best and spend the most amount of money, but you canbe happy with another as well.
I had my old digital camera for 3 years and it is still going strong, I wanted an SLR so I upgraded, but these will be my cameras for a looonnnggg time.

If you are a beginner at SLR you won't upgrade in 1 year.
I got a D40x last year and really started to know how to explore out of the AUTO mode.
I will eventually upgrade but not now.
For under $1000, you can get the D60 (replaced the D40x) or the D80. I saw some good deasl for under $1000 for the D80 and lens package. The D80 is larger than the D60.

Re: Thinking of buying an SLR.. gimme your opinions on the best
I've had my D50 for almost 3 years now and I am super happy with it. I really have no plans to upgrade the camera itself, but over the years, I have used different lenses and found one I am happy with. I don't think you'd regret going fro the D40 or D60... They are great beginner SLR's and serve their purpose. And I wouldn't really worry about megapixels - unless you want to crop and blow up things to poster size! Mine is only a 6.1 and one of my favorite pictures taken with it is a family shot that I blew up to 16x20 and its crystal clear

I agree that you won't care about megapixels unless you're cropping a tiny portion of a photo. I have the D70 & just bought the D90. I've had my D70 for almost 5 years (it's 6.1 megapixels).
I don't think you'll upgrade the camera as much as you'd upgrade the lens.
Here is a side-by-side comparison
