This annoyed me yesterday - am I hormonal, or do you think this was rude?

I was leaving with Cailen from daycare yesterday. I carried him out to the car. I was leaving thru the doors, and 3 women were coming in - I'm assuming they were moms - so of course, they oooh and ahh when they see him, how old is he, etc...

I tell them 9 weeks, and one of the women tells me in this bossy tone, " He needs to wear a hat outside!"

I told her, "He has a hood on his sweatshirt!" And put it on his head (I was planning on doing this anyway, but stopped when the women started talking to me because I was halfway outside...)

But after, i thought that was really rude. He is my son, has a full head of hair, and it already stopped raining by the time I picked him up and wasn't that cold.

But who is she to tell a stranger to put a hat on her baby?

I can understand maybe a bald newborn in the dead of winter to a 16 yr old mom, but its obvious I'm a professional woman (I was derssed up) - and taking my child out of a daycare center

I don't know - I really wished after that I told her to mind her own business, but I didnt want to make enemies there on my 1st day!

some Moms who have older children feel that "They Know Best" and pass along unwanted advice get used to iyt It happens all the time

Even today I went to the mall and a mom with a 2 1/2 yr old saw DD and I (ddis 5mths) and the boy was pushing his stroller instead of siting in it and she looks at DD and says soon you will be pushing the stroller and running around iand turns to me and says they DONT STAY like that ya know

As if I have no idea what to expect from older children ....so I politely said I know I have a 10 and 5 yr old thanks

RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who does she think she is?! As if it's even her biz how you dress your son!!

No, you are not hormonal. That would annoy me too. First of all, even though it was raining yesterday, it tapered off at a certain point and then became really warm and humid. I sent my son to daycare with a hooded sweatchirt too yesterday, but didn't even bother putting it on him in the afternoon because it was way too warm. And he is only a few months older than your son and barely has any hair. And it's probably worse to overheat a baby. The only hats DS wears now are sun hats.

Regarding the women, don't listen to them. Everyone always has to put in their 2 cents. It is none of their business what you do with your son! I've gotten stupid comments like that before, and most of the time I just grit my teeth, force a smile and say thanks for the advice. It's just not worth fighting about it most of the time!

So try not to let it get to you.

Don't you know other moms know what's best for your baby? It will be the first of many unsolicited comments, welcome to motherhood!

You're not hormonal. People jump too quickly to offer their advice (ie: tell you what to do). I've just learned to grin and bear it. I vent about it when I get home.

I hate when people offer their advice. Just ignore them.

If one more person tells me that she needs a blanket I'm going to choke them. A baby doesn't need a blanket on them when it's 85 degrees out.

I see the Europeans walking around with their babies in onesies & no bottoms in the FALL. I hate it but as long as they're not hurting their child, it's their kid.

Also, how long was he going to be outside if you were dropping him off that he needed a hat on?

I know how you feel....
On saturday I was walking from the car into a buiding and a woman said " I wish you would put a hat on that child". Even though I knew it was a 30 second walk, I felt like such a bad mommy

I hate to say this, but get used to all the UN-welcomed advise.

I went to diner one night to meet a friend, b.c I was literally going to lose my mind from being inside all day- it was February. It was cold, but nothing unbearable. All the women in the diner kept coming up to me to admire my DD and to tell me it was too cold to be out with DD. SO RUDE.

People still ask me if I am nursing... etc... it never ends.

Unforunitely unsolicited advice is the norm...I usually just smile...and then grumble to myself.

I actually think it daycare settings moms tend to think "its all of us" together. Kinda like just helping you out. I bet in a few weeks you and her might become friends. Dont take it personally. I have found so much more unwanted advice from family members.

Nope, you are not hormonal- definately rude. We had this happen when DD was about the same age. She was in the Bjorn and the day turned a little cool(here in LA). But we were out, on our way to the car and didn't have any option at that point. Plus she was up against my warm body.

This woman walks by and says what a cute little boy and he needs a hat!

I retorted with she a cute little girl and she is fine

I was so annoyed.
