This Flu epidemic...
is everyone else worried?. I just got back from vacation and I am kind of worried to hear about it. I never got the flu shot. I am still on my first trimester so Im sure i'll probably have to wait until my second. Do you think it's necessary to get it?? TIA ladies

Re: This Flu epidemic...
My doctor strongly recommended it as did my sister and BIL (Both OBGYNs.) I was very hesitant at first but as a teacher I decided there was a very good chance that I could get this and I decided to go for the vaccine just to be safe. I think there is probably an element of "hype" but for me, since I worry about everything I just went for it.

Re: This Flu epidemic...
I'm also in my first trimester (6 weeks tomorrow) and I got the flu shot this past Tuesday. The nurse wanted to give it to me but I was insistant on having my doc do it because I wanted to make sure he knew I was pregnant. He called my obgyn office to confirm that it was safe and refused to give it to me until he spoke to the ob I'll be seeing. About 30 minutes later he got a call from the doc and confirmed that it was safe for me to get.
I went in to get the flu shot 2 weeks ago (before I knew I was preggo) but was turned away because I was at the end of getting over a cold. My doc said that although the flu shot WILL NOT cause the flu, if you are sick and get the flu shot it will only prolong your sickness or make you worse because your body can't fight 2 things at once. He also said that the flu shot takes about 2 weeks to fully protect your body once administered.
I'd get the flu shot. Your still capable of getting the flu with it but it will be a much milder case. I normally end up in the hospital numerous times with the flu so I didn't want to take any chances.

Re: This Flu epidemic...
My OB had someone come in for a day to their office, shooting up all the preggo ladies for the season. I thought it was great that I didn't have to make an extra trip anywhere, because I might not have....
