This is an awesome rescue story...
I got this in an email from a group I belong to:
A couple of months ago I posted about an ordinary brown dog in the Mercer County Pound. The title of the post was "Sweet Goodbye". Some of you will remember that post. I took the "goodbye" picture less than 24 hours before "Kevlar", also known as "Debra", was to be put to sleep. She had been posted, but no one asked about her. I wanted people just to say a little prayer for her, remember her, and acknowledge that she had lived. Within just a few hours of that post I had sponsorship money, transportation offers, and a home for her to go to in NH!! I have NEVER been so happy to save a dog! This is Kevlar's Sweet Goodbye picture. She was trying to lick me through the kennel at the pound. I still tear up when I think about it.

Re: This is an awesome rescue story...
I brought "Debra" home with me to foster. We had her spayed & other vet work done, had a home visit & other screening done on Lisa Masse in New Hampshire, and after a month, Debra was on her way to NH, via CUR. (Thank you, Sheri and all the other transporters!) Debra stayed with Lisa for a few weeks, and was doing very well with her. Lisa discovered that Debra not only likes children, she LOVES them. Debra is a very sweet & quiet natured girl. Lisa's vet even made the comment that she is the very best shelter dog he's ever met! One day a good friend of Lisa's visited with her autistic four year old boy, DJ. DJ has been around dogs before, and never reacted to them at all. DJ also speaks very little. He and Debra (now known as Kevlar) bonded immediately, and strongly! Kevlar would not leave the little boy's side, and DJ patted Kevlar and kept repeating her name. When DJ and his mom went home, Debra sat by the door for hours and cried. At home, DJ cried for Kevlar. Can you figure out the rest of the story?? Below is the outcome for DJ and Kevlar..how could anyone ask for a happier ending? From the Mercer County Pound, hours away from death, to the very special "therapy" dog of a precious little boy!

That is a beautiful ending for an amazing dog.
Mercer county is a high kill shelter. I am so glad she got out of there.

Re: This is an awesome rescue story...
what an amazing story!!!! how awesome are you to have done that?!?!
i get so sick inside when i think about what amazing pets most of these dogs would make if given a chance... i adopted my sophie on the day she was supposed to be put to sleep - she was sick, and had been in the shelter for 9 days, and one of the shelter workers told me it was to be her last day. now i could not imagine my life without her - to this day, almost 4 years later, i cry every time i think about it

Re: This is an awesome rescue story...
I want to add - I can't take credit for helping Kevlar out. I get regular emails from a group I belong to and one of the women in this group is responsible for Kevlar being adopted out. I would love to take credit for such a wonderful story, but didn't do it. Still is a wonderful ending though.

You most, certainly, did help Kevlar out. You got the ball rolling and without you this never would have happened. Kudos to you and a round of applause for having the big heart that you do. I'm sure you made God smile.
