Wow...now see what I did?? All I wanted people to do was to not shop at J Crew because of what they are doing. It's the little things in life that we do that make a big difference.
DO you think that this couldn't be some smear job designed to take sales away from J Crew?
I thought this, too. This season J. Crew's prices have gone crazy and the clothing has changed from chinos and rollneck sweaters to cashmere coats and leather pants. Maybe someone is just disgusted by the change and is getting their own revenge. That J. Cruel website seems like the work of someone with too much time on his/her hands.
Maybe I will call J. Crew and see what customer service has to say about this...

I think PETA has too much at stake to launch a completely unfounded smear campaign.

I completely agree. I think they are an honest organization, and one wrongful allegation will wreck havoc on all the positive work they do.

I dont think this is an unfounded smear campaign either, but I often disagee with how PETA gets their message across. Remember that thing with Clay Aiken? He mentioned on a talk show that he didn't like cats, and PETA skewered him and called him an animal hater. That was really uncalled for. Their tactics get in the way of their message sometimes.

I don't think what they did was smearing. They attacked someone who has a public platform - someone who in turn, perpetuated a hatred for cats, and thus animals - whether he intended to do that or not.
With that said, I do not always agree with PETA's tactics either. I actually have huge issues with their willingness to exploit women in an attempt to stop the exploitation of animals. It's a huge disconnect, imo.

Jcrew has always been a little on the expensive side. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that they are now more retail, brick & mortar format, instead of the catalog base they used to have.
I looked on their website- there are maybe 3-4 pieces with fur trim...Don't think it would be so bad if they pulled those pieces.... they should..
But then again- I wear leather.. what do I know.

IMO those are two different things
If someone asked my if i like ferrets...i wouls say i hate them...find them disgusting and smelly...but that is just an opinion i really don't think i am perpetuating anything

I agree-for me at least, some of the ways PETA handles things sort of puts me off. I think they do a lot of good work, but I think they sometimes go a little overboard with some of their campaigns.
Also, as far as the Clay Aiken thing, I'm curious too about what was said. Some of my best friends say they don't like cats - and I LOVE cats. I don't think they are evil animal haters - though, I do give them a hard time about it.

Sorry guys, it wasn't a tv interview, it was an article in Rolling Stone magazine. I can't find the exact article, but here is one that covers the story: click here

Thanks! And now that I see it, OK, personally, I'm ok with what they said about Clay. I have no problem with someone who doesn't like cats - or even thinks they are the Devil, but to say he "ran over one" and be ok with that - or even mean to do it. That's just disgusting.

The difference, imo, is you stating your opinion amongst friends...and him stating his opinion to hundreds of thousands of people. His voice will be heard louder than yours...and imo, that has the potential to perpetuate a problem.
A store like JCrew is more mainstream than major designers. For them to jump on the bandwagon of selling fur - much like Express did years ago as well as bebe - they're taking a gross industry and making it affordable to regular folks. They should take more responsibility for their actions.
While I don't wear leather...I do find fur more disgusting than leather. While in concept, I don't agree with it, I understand (in ways) that leather is a by-product of the meat industry. Since I don't see people rejecting burgers and steaks any time soon...leather isn't going anywhere.
The production of fur, OTOH, is despicable on way too many levels. From the gassing and neck-breaking to the run-off of chemicals into our waters. The fact that 40 animals have to be killed to make one coat, is disgusting.

in all honesty who cares if people say it to thousands of people or not...IT IS AN OPINION none the less.
And to say that clothing co should stop using fur is sill...it ain't going to happen. And to be honest if they should stop using fur then so should the leather.... Skin, fur...to say ok leather bad fur is imo hypocritical.

I wish I could find out more about him running over the cat- it seems to have been an accident. I want to believe the best of him. He does so much humanitarian work, I can't picture him intentionally harming a cat, even if he cant stand them.

I like animals just as much as the next person.
But according to this web-site
"7 million adoptable pets are killed each year, including millions of puppies. 25% of pets in shelters are purebred."
I think we should take this into consideration first.
(Not that I shop JCrew or care if they lose business or not. Just pointing something out that's all.)
Okay, but those animals are humanely euthanized...can you show me where on that
video anyone was treated humanely???
Under the video clip was a petition, and I wrote to them a long letter. Yes, those animals were treated HORRIBLE. The way those people had then cramped in small cages, and throwing the cages on the concrete floor so they are bouncing around, and stacked on top of one another. IT IS HORRIBLE. I told them that Im sure they own a cat or dog, and how would you like your pet people treated like that. They should be ASHAMED!!!
Honestly (and I don't care if I get flamed) all those asian-type countries do sick and inhumane things to dogs and cats. They'll eat them, cook them alive...it's insane.
Now I know there's going to be someone who will come on and go off about me about the meat industry...but how many of you have snuggled up to a cow or a chicken lately?
Diane, how did you contact them (J.Crew)

Like I said, I don't wear leather - so I obviously don't think it's "OK". However, the production of fur is more heinous than that of leather. To grow an animal purely for their fur, is sick. At least the entire cow is being used...as sad and as disgusting as I think that is.
However, I try to be realistic. Leather isn't going anywhere as long as people continue to eat cows. Fur, OTOH, is purely for fashion purposes.

IMO killing for their skin, fur...it is still killing for it. People dont need leather just as much as they dont' need fur. Leather isn't going anywhere and lets face it...fur isn't either
THis being said i do ont wear any fur but i do have many leather and suede products
