This is too much

My bird Julep died unexpectedly today. I've lost 2 birds in 4 days Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I loved him so much, and I miss him terribly. I think the drastic change in temperature here this past week got him stressed and he developed a gut infection.

Thankfully my other 2 birds look fine. I'm going to give them some extra TLC just to be sure they are healthy.

Julep was one of my dissertation birds and I only had him home a month before he died. I had such big plans to give him a fantastic rest of his life outside of the lab. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just remember, you had great intentions for this little baby. You took him home and I'm sure his last month with you was a beautiful piece of his life.

Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss!! Chat Icon I can't imagine how sad you must be. Chat Icon

Were the two birds that died near each other? Do birds get contagious infections like other animals? I am just wondering if you should talk to your vet about the other two birds just to make sure this wasn't anything contagious.

Thanks Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My friend was taking care of them because we were in NY for mother's day weekend. I cried the whole way home Chat Icon

I truly believe the 2 deaths were unrelated. Cream was 7 years old, and generally finches live to be about 5 Chat Icon So she had a LONG life. Plus Cream was separated from everyone else since she had a hurt foot and I thought all the commotion with 4 birds would make it worse.

I think Julep might have gotten a gut infection from stress. Here in MD, it was 90 one day and 60 the next, and maybe the temperature change stressed him out, but not the other 2 birds.

My other two look great. They are eating, calling, perching, and not at all fluffed. I gave them acidophilus on their seed just in case they may be stressed. I'm keeping a close watch on them.
