This makes me sick to my stomach- melamine trace found
How come there is no regulation to prevent something like this and how do we know if they are ever really disclosing the full truth and findings. I feel sometimes like there really is no way to prevent some of this stuff but it seems there are not enoguh regulatinos on the things coming from china, between this, the lead, etc...I give my DS the RTF enfamil so think I'm ok but now I can't help but wonder

ETA-- Thank you I think I may hav emisread it, seems like it may have come from cleaning ingredients and notfrom imported ingredients but still, my God, these are children's lives!!!!!

This is absolutely horrifying to me. The fact that there is ANY being detected should mean a mandated recall of ALL of that formula

ETA-- and I jsut checked my container of Enfamil RTF and it says made in Indiana so how would I ever have thought of this as being an issue...I don't even understand this they must use some ingredients from China, it felels like we should have that information on the can as well....
The article says the trace amounts of the chemical found in the formula could be from the products used to clean the equipment.

They aren't using ingredients from China. It is something to clean the machines and they said it was very trace amounts.

It seems like it's the Enfamil Lipil in powder form if I read it correctly. I use the Enfamil Lipil with Iron Ready Made.........I hope that it's okay. I went to Enfamil's website as well as Mead Johnson's website but they had no mention of it that I could find. Makes me nervous!!

And while the FDA said tests of 18 samples of formula made by Abbott Laboratories, including its Similac brand, did not detect melamine, spokesman Colin McBean said some company tests did find the chemical. He did not identify the specific product or the number of positive tests.

I hope it is. I would hate to have to switch her.........she's been on the Enfamil RTF since she was a week old and does great with it. I was going to try her on the powder in a few weeks but now I will wait.

I cannot stand how consumer protection agencies like the FDA have changed these last 6+ years. They now protect the companies, not the public.
of course they refuse to give details of what brands DON'T have melamine or cyanuric acid.... becuase they'd rather hurt babies kidneys than hurt the industry
I'm curious, becuase we don't use one of the three major brands... we use earth's best organic. I'd like to know if our less-popular brand was tested and what the results are.

I just called nestle and they said that there are less than one drop per million found in their products.. They wouldn't tell me what kinds of good start products..
I don't understand this.. was this the fist time they tested for it, why now are they finding it.. they said they will be updating their website nestleusa.com also go to the FDA website for updates.
My DD is on good start because of her acid reflux.. and i don't know what to do, change her now.. I called the dr to find out what he thinks we should do.
I am so upset right now.

so really, no formula is "safe" right now. although they've identified some brands that it has been located in, they haven't said that any are free of melamine. so that to me makes me worry.
i just want to be able to feed my baby and not worry that he could be poisoned. this is absolutely outrageous.

I really think they didn't mention if a brand doesn't have it becuase they didn't want to hurt the industry by giving parents a 'go-to option' w/o contaminants.
after all, they never mentioned that all brands tested were contaminated...

Melamine is in can liners... mostly all cans are lined with plastic- if you look at your canned foods, you will see it as well...
it's completely wrong and messed up .. but I think if we started digging, we'd realize how much our children were exposed to on a daily basis from foods and thing their skin comes to contact with- like even shower curtain liners!
It's sick and scary and I'm not sure there is much we can do....

Ok. I'm sorry, but this statement is absolutely out of control silly. No formula company executive is sitting in their office in an evil villain fashion tapping their fingers going "We've got them now, and we won't even TELL them what other products they can use. BWHAHAHAHA"
