This makes me so angry - but is there anyone who would like to give two cats a home?

One of my mom's co-workers daughter is pregnant and is getting rid of her cats. This makes me beyond angry, I think this is so awful. I can never, ever understand this. It would be one thing if the baby was allergic, but the baby is still unborn. She just doesn't want to deal with them, I guess. Disgusting.

I already have three cats and we are looking into adopting a dog, and five cats would just be too much, otherwise I would take them.

All I know about them is that they are 3 and 1.5 years old. These people also have two dogs, so I am assuming the cats are ok with a dog in the house.

If you or anyone you know would like to give these cats the home they deserve, please let me know.

This woman should really reconsider having a baby... what's to say she won't get board of it as well?
And I guess the dogs are ok with a baby? Honestly- dogs usually cause MORE issues with children than cats...

Anyone who treats animals as disposable should not reproduce.
But whatever....

I'll probably get flamed left and right for this but WOW that was harsh.

She's looking for a new home...not throwing them out in the street or putting them down.

Obvisoulsy not somethng you would do...but circumstances change and people need to do what's best for them and their families.

You see it as she considers them disposable...I see it as she gave them a good life for as long as she had them and wants someone else to do the same. Who knows how they would have lived if she didn't adopt them.

But whatever...guess everyone sees things differently.

Bottom line...I hope she finds a loving home to place them in.

Re: This makes me so angry - but is there anyone who would like to give two cats a home?

My issue here stems from 2 things.
The first being the fact that she wants to get rid of her cats just because she is pregnant. If she had the baby and the cats caused issues, acted out against the child, caused the child allergies, I could understand it.
But just saying- I want to get rid of my cats because I'm pregnant- to me says- they are disposable.

The second issue is- why is ok to keep the dogs? That to me is the typical attitude- dogs are better, more important, more useful- and the cats are just secondary pets and can be disposed of...

Since neither of us knows the situation in the house we can't really answer this.
But maybe the cats are little aggressive now and she's worried about the baby. Maybe the cats pee all over the house and she's worried about how that will effect the baby. There could be many reasons why. Who knows.

When I see "disposable" I think of throwing something away.
I guess what I'm saying is she could have put the cats down or dumped them in the woods some place and told people she rehomed them.
At lease she's looking for a home them.

ETS: I feel this way about all the post on here when someone is looking to rehome their pet. It's not just this 1 situation.

Yeah this part bothers me a lot too. I have to admit. When my babies were newborns the cats made me so frustrated, and there were times I couldn't stand them, but never once did I think about giving them away. Now they are so good with the babies, and the babies absolutely adore them.
And we are trying to adopt a dog now!

I don't think this is harsh. ITA. I hate people who think their animals are no longer worth it when they have a DC on the way...or in the picture. Disgusting, ITA. You watch, someone like that...the dogs will be next when they see how much work a baby is...just watch and mark my words.

I feel so bad for those cats, I wish I could help them.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: This makes me so angry - but is there anyone who would like to give two cats a home?

Wow

just wow.

Cats get such a bad rep for pregnant women who dont do the research. Our friends returned a kitty they had taken on when they found out they were preggo. She didnt want to deal with the stress of a rather unruly cat. The original owners gave up the cat to her because his youngest had a severe allergy to the cat. By the time the cat came back the allergy was under control. So it worked out for everyone.

I had 3 when i got pregnant and I got a lot of pressure to get rid of some if not all. I wouldnt think of it.

My father is old fashioned and swore they'd steal her breathe, etc.

I kept them all. And now we're down to two after our move and she loves chasing them. Chat Icon

Having pets is good for child development, parents stress RELIEF, etc.

I can't help cause im in TX and couldnt anyway but I think this woman needs to seriously sit down and consider the consquences more clearly.

Poor cats are so young too!

shame shame shame.

Unless cats are destructive to the baby I see this as someone who dosn't want to bother.

It's a shame. Cats are no work at all.

Re: This makes me so angry - but is there anyone who would like to give two cats a home?

I can go both ways on this b/c my beloved pokey is a re-homed pet

the girl I got him from wanted to move to a "nicer" apartment and had 5 cats

she decided she didn't want Pokey (Mr. twigs) anymore

so I took him into my home and I that probably saved his life b/c she would not have spent the $3K I spent on him last year to save him

he changed my life and helped me thru a difficult time- and his life is much better now

so my point is- I would rather see a pet find a loving home then stay with someone that wont give them 100%

i do not think its harsh, from the info given this woman sees pet's as disposable which is sick! This woman should be ashamed of herself.

I wish I could take a cat in, but everyone in my family is allergic and if I have a cat then I can't have my family and I am so sad over it. Rather have a cat then a dog.
