this may seem a bit dramatic . . .
but for the 1 minute the earth was shaking, I had a moment after it was all over of "I cannot believe I was not with my little boy". . .I couldn't imagine the sheer terror I would've gone through being at work and my child at daycare and be not being able to get in touch with anyone if something serious happened. It freaked my world out for a bit!
Did anyone else get that or is it just my pregnant hormones

It's the hormones
I didn't get freaked out because it was such a mild quake, but if it was more serious I would have been racing home instead of waiting for the OEM to let us back in the building

Not really, maybe I am missing the gene that makes a good concerned mommy I tend not to panic, ever, even when I should though so don't go by me!
I do get it though

I was home with her, if I wasn't, I probably would have felt exactly the same way you did.

The first call I tried to make was to my nanny to check on my kids. At that point, I had no clue how serious it was. I was really worried until I was finally able to get through to them.

If you're crazy I am too. It could of course be that I'm having seperation anxiety lately and having issues being a FTWM. All I can say is thank goodness DH works across the street from daycare and if something were to happen, he would be there in a heartbeat.

If it makes you feel better, I was WITH my kids and I didn't even go check on them! I just assumed all was fine, haha.

The first thing I did was call for my son to come into the living room. It was a scary few minutes.

Re: this may seem a bit dramatic . . .
I work five minutes away...and I was the only one who left work and FLEW home.
My Mom watches DD at my house.
I didn't know if it was going to happen again...worse...and if something was gonna happen to me or DD, we were going to be together for it!

Re: this may seem a bit dramatic . . .
This was the first time I've ever felt a real earthquake. I was affected. I did not panic but I did grab DS from his nap in the crib, to which he asked, mommy can we go play , and stood in the bathtub (DH later told me that's for tornadoes! ). That didn't feel right so I carried him outside with my cell and house phone and hung with my neighbor in her driveway for a bit. I was queasy and my muscles felt weak and I had a motion sickness feeling for a couple hours.
We were jesting but seriously I felt hopeless with no earthquake plan or clue of what to do or where to go with my boy!

Re: this may seem a bit dramatic . . .
I was going to post this exact thing - down to the subject line!
When it happened, I had to stop and tell myself to NOT run out of the building screaming like a lunatic. I could not get through to DH or my mom, I was panicking on the inside.
I swear, if i didnt have to go into an underground parking garage - I would have FLEW out of there the second it happened. I waited and signed out in an orderly fashion but I didnt stay for overtime and I was the only one who left in a hurry, everyone was teasing me.
I had to get home and hug DD, nothing was going to stop me.

We were jesting but seriously I felt hopeless with no earthquake plan or clue of what to do or where to go with my boy! this is how i felt as well. both girls were upstairs sleeping and i was downstairs like a deer in headlights. i just had no idea what what going on. had i known it was an earthquake i would have perhaps felt more at ease, but it totally caught me off guard and my heart started racing!

Re: this may seem a bit dramatic . . .
not dramatic IMO. I was with my babies and I still felt like "hey something is not right here...let me get them both with me" went into DDs room where she was napping and stood there just waiting until it was over. I was actually more nervous though about DH since he works at Ground Zero on a foundation and I just had horrible visions of something collapsing on him before I found out it wasnt serious.
