This might sound crazy but...
does anyone know if it's possible to raise the ceilings on the ground floor of 2 floor house built on a slab? Someone told me this was feasible (I can't imagine how!) and I'm wondering if it's true...

Re: This might sound crazy but...
You would also be moving the second floor higher, right? We are considering expanding our house by adding another floor, and we would have to raise the ceiling 4-5 feet on one end of the first floor room (it's got cathedral ceilings, so we have to even out the room to keep a high ceiling in there). A small wall is built on top of the existing wall to the height you want the ceiling to go, and then the floor for the second story is built on top of that wall and the second story walls on top of that. Does this make sense? Kind of hard to explain.
