this seems like the most appropriate board for my questions...

Hi ladies!

I have a history of ovarian cysts. I have a few large ones at the moment and am under the regular care of my gyn. I am now on day 67 with no period - it has been determined that I don't ovulate.

My doc did a full blood workup and my body is lacking progesterone. She prescribed Provera - I'm supposed to start on Friday.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has used Provera to "jump start" ovulation and what the results were. Doc said that she sees many cases where all it takes is a round or 2 of provera and our bodies wake up and realize what they're supposed to do. I'm curious to see if anyone here has any first hand experience.

She mentioned something about vitamin B, and I already take a vitamin B complex into addition to my women's daily vitamin - i love what it does for my hair, nails, and skin.

I feel so hormonally imbalanced right now - it's awful!!!!

(I already did a search - most threads were here or the IF board, but it's been a while.)

THANKS! Chat Icon

have you been diagnosed with PCOS? i think with a "history of ovarian cysts" your next step would be to see an RE for a workup and possibly try metformin (if you are insulin-resistant) or something else to help you ovulate, like clomid.

i have never heard of provera being used to "jump start" ovulation but i don't have experience with PCOS or an RE - i only know what i do from the IF board. in all honesty i think you should definitely see what the ladies there think.

good luck nic - are we going to be seeing some teensies??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon hah - no mini-Shorties anytime soon...no way. Our lives are not stable (jobs, homes, etc.)

I do not have PCOS - I had a full blood workup and everything is good, except for the lack of progesterone.

I'll x-post this on IF - thanks!

No provera has never "jump started" anything. All provera will do is make you have a withdrawal bleed. It would probably be a good idea for you to see an endocrinologist, they specialize in dealing with hormonal issues. When you are ready to TTC you will need to see a reproductive endocrinologist.

I agree-it is not normal to not have a period for 67 days and the culprit is likely PCOS. Ask for cycle day 3 blood work when you do get your period. Thsi will determine if you have PCOS
