This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
I am really angry about this story, and while I am not Catholic anymore, I am tempted to write to the Pope or whoever you would write to and demand that this decision be reversed.
BBC Story
I read in Newsday the stepfather who was responsible for the whole thing is still a member of the church--they are not excommunicating him!
I know there are a lot of people who may disagree with me, but in this case, I definitely think abortion was justified.

Re: This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
The worst part to me is that these people might need their church more than ever given everything they have been through, and they are kicked out?

Re: This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
I didn't even think a 9 year old would be physically capable of carrying twins..
Im catholic as well, but sometimes the church makes me wonder...this is really sad. The church expects a 9yr old to give birth and give the babies up?
poor girl..

Re: This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
The abortion was done not only because of the rape (which sickens me to no end) but also because a 9 year old cannot physically bear twins.
It's no surprise that the church would choose to follow their doctrine with no exception. I'm truly hoping her name is kept confidential & she doesn't have to actually be ex-communicated.

Re: This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
I've been following the story since the pregnancy/abuse was first posted her early last week.
The church's position makes me happy I'm not a practicing Catholic, and even happier that DH & I decided against having DD christened in the Catholic Church.

This is absolutely disgusting. Aside from the abortion, I hope this group arranged for the rapists d!ck to be chopped off

Beginning with getting rid of the priest that molest children. And not just move them from 1 parish to another.
This story makes me sick!

Re: This Story Made me Absolutely Sick!
I am catholic and things like this really make it hard for me to raise my children catholic. I don't think anyone should be excommunicated for trying to save this child's life. Her step father was pure evil and he deserves to have the crap kicked out of him.

I was trying to find the right words...but I think that you said it better.
The way I see it is that by excumincating this poor child...the Church is supporting Rape
