If you scroll through the "top news videos" further down the page..you will see a box with the babies face. Click that box and it will start the video.

Re: This video of a baby hearing his mom for the first time melted my heart
I have such mixed emotions about this video. I grew up within the deaf culture and these implants are not received well. It is hard to describe unless you live it. Deafness is not a disability and 'giving in' to the implant means you are trying to 'correct' something that isn't wrong. Believe me, most of the hearing people do receive being deaf as a learning disability. But you have only lost one of your senses, none of your brain.
Have you ever seen the movie 'Children of a Lesser God' with Marlee Matlin? AMAZING!!! This only scrapes the surface of the deaf culture.
Yet, as a mother now, I think I would do anything to have my child seem 'normal'. Before this week, our biggest problem was wondering if we should laser off his birthmark before he starts school. Kids can be cruel and will be bullies over the most stupid things. As parents, we strive to do anything for our children.
This baby's reaction absolutely warms my heart and makes me cry.

The reaction of the baby is so beautiful. I watch the mother's response and the pride that is off of her face is...emotional!! WHen he dropped the paci...omg...I am tearing now just hinking about it and I haven't seen it in days!!!

DH and I were just talking about this..some of the video responses were a bit negative from the deaf community...and I CAN see where they're coming from in a way. BUT..I don't know. This is a little baby who now has the ability to hear the world around him. I would have done the same thing as the parents (given him cochlear implants). Why not?
I know there is mixed feelings among the deaf culture. I guess if you have been deaf you're entire life and embraced it and its a unique part of who you are, it could be hard to see this technology changing peoples futures. BUT I don't think anyone should be upset that these parents chose this technology for their son. His face and reaction were priceless. I cried watching it.
