This whole GD thing is confusing to me..
Can someone explain to me, how it is that I eat the same thing for breakfast every morning (I'm a creature of habit, what can I say?) And my blood sugar is always fine and under my limit, but today it was over 120?
I do have a follow up with the GD Dietician on Monday, but I'm getting very frustrated.

What did you eat for dinner the night before? If you had carbs, they take longer to digest so they can/will effect your morning numbers. Hope this helps!

It's true - what you eat the night before has an effect on your blood sugar the next morning

Re: This whole GD thing is confusing to me..
my breakfast number shouldn't be affected by my evening snack. I do a fasting blood check when I get up in the morning. My dinner numbers are always okay. My fasting number is usually just at the cut off.
This is my check 2 hours after breakfast, so I already have had a blood sugar check prior to this.

What did you have as your snack the night before?

Re: This whole GD thing is confusing to me..
a lot of things can effect blood sugar.... if you are coming down with a cold, your sick, tired..... the best thing you can do is try your hardest to keep your levels down but be aware that even people with Diabetes who have been monitoring their sugars for years will never keep their numbers perfect. There are a lot of factors in your body that you can't control that can effect your levels so all you can do is try your best and control your food intake....
If your sugar levels are off all day today then give your MD a call.....

My dietician had me checking 1 hour from the first bite of breakfast with last pregnancy.

I know this, my Dr. is not paying attention to my numbers from last week because I had a bad cold.
I don't think my evening snack would affect my breakfast numbers though since I thought that affected my fasting number when I first get up in the morning. I have the same thing every night. Which is why I'm just so confused.
Hopefully, the dietician can explain why.

They told me 2 hours from the first bite. Both the dietician and my OB.

Are you stressed? Good/bad stress can have a big impact on blood sugar levels. My father has been a diabetic for over 30 years and has a SOLID handle on his levels, but they really do skyrocket when he's under a lot of stress or worried about something.

Re: This whole GD thing is confusing to me..
as your body changes with the pregnancy, so will your numbers ... I found no rhyme or reason each week. What worked on Monday did not work the following Monday. All you can do is adjust and readjust each week and hope that your numbers average 'low' .... my son came out 2 lbs lighter than what they anticpated at my 30 week sono. I think it was because I was on such a strict diet (with insulin) ... I did get high numbers a few times per week, but as long as you are ok most of the time, the baby will be fine.

Re: This whole GD thing is confusing to me..
I had to test 1-hour afterwards ... some doctors require 2-hours. Not sure why the difference.

If your fasting number when you woke up this morning was good then what you ate last night should have no direct correlation with your numbers after breakfast....
See what your nutritionist says. Don't panic about your numbers being off a few times... I'm sure you are frustrated as hell though
