Thoracotomy Q

My dad had a double bypass and they went through his breast plate. How does that heal? I mean, you can use stitches on skin...what about bone?

Funny...my dad had a double bypass this week as well. I hope your dad is recovering. They actually use some form of wire which stays in him for life to wrap the separated bones together and they heal like that. Then they use glue to seal the incision on the chest to avoid a huge scar. That's why they can't have chest mri's ever again
