those familiar with leasing or know someone in car business..
so i leased a 2006 Grand Jeep Cherokee.. got a good deal and didnt go for any of the extras since I wont own it. i was firm!!! :) i didnt sign the contract YET so I can still get this off if it is not good..
i was persuaded to get the extended warranty.. he said my warranty is bumper to bumper for 3 years or 36,000 miles... I am going for 39 months and 15,000 miles a year. if anything happens mechanical wise, radio, etc...I would be covered for the additional miles and costs et. It was $600 flat fee which came out to $18 more a month since i rolled it into my payment...
Do I REALLY need that extended warranty or is that bullsheat?? he told me people who go for 15,000 + get it as a safe precaution 12,000 under do not...
going on THURS to sign everything so I need to knwo by then!!!
TIA

I would think it is a sales tactic and I would not worry about it. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and love it. Good luck with yours. Plus if you divide the $600 by 39 it only comes out to around $15.39 more a month so you are also paying interest on it.

I just leased the Jeep grand cherokee too!!!!
I went with the 12,000 miles/yr and the 36 month lease so I didn't have to get any extra coverage. But on my last lease I did 39 months and 15k miles/yr so I got the extended warranty. I wouldn't take the chance... i'd go with the extended warranty.

I never get the extended warrantee. whatever they tell you is a sales pitch. $600 more for 3 more months is NOT a good deal! that's $200 a month, what are the odds....
I wouldn't get it

Don't get it, you're leasing it for a little more than 3 years, not 30, the car will be fine......
So basically you're paying $600 for the 3 months? Definitely not worth it, you may not wan the car that long anyway....

I just wanted to add that $18 a month x 39 months = $702! so now you're paying interest on that extended warrantee definitely not worth it!!

Re: those familiar with leasing or know someone in car business..
I would get it.
I had a lease and the warranty expired. It was three months w/o coverage. The a/c broke in July. It was a $1200 repair. I paid it. That's my math. I was offered the warranty again after the 1 year mark and turned it down. After the 2 year mark they offered it again. Each year the price went up of course since the car was older.
Anything can go wrong and it usually does after the warranty. For me $18/mo is peace of mind.
I lease cars all the time and I usually sign deals for exactly the warranty period. Maybe you can change the deal around to fit that criteria.
One more thing to add; you may get able to get out of the lease early if you lease another Chrysler. So, if that's your plan you can probably get out of your lease 3 months eariler and avoid the whole mess with a brand new car.
That is if you want to lease another car with the leasing company. Not the dealership. The leasing company is usually the bank that you got your financing through.

From the wife of a dealer, NO! And particularly not on a lease. You don't need it and yes, the interest is added in so you'll actually pay more.

Re: those familiar with leasing or know someone in car business..
I got a 4 year lease on a car that had a three year warranty, so I did get the extra warranty - if anything goes wrong in that last year, i don't want to have to pay for it. However, if I don't use it, they will refund me the money at the end of the lease.

Re: those familiar with leasing or know someone in car business..
I just bought a 2006 murano. I also have 12,00 miles a year and for 39 months. It came with the standard 36,000 warranty. For the extra $400 for the extended warranty I got it because god forbid when Im ready to turn it in I have problems, The other reason was because this car has so many features, etc anything can happen. And it comes with Roadside. For piece of mind I did it.
