7am would be the best... I would even leave at 6:30am for added insurance. You have to account for parking and 9am in RIGHT in the middle of rush hour. I live around exit 24 on the LIE and it is PACKED at that time.

Are you car pooling?
That can save you a lot of time.

Definitely 6 or 6:30 a.m. - especially if you are driving alone.
DH carpools into queens and they leave at 6:45 and get into Kew Gardens around 8:15...that's using the HOV lane.
You will be stuck in the middle of traffic and have to find a place to park in the city....so you need to leave a cushion.

ETA: We live at Exit 65, so the timing is about the same.

The idea is you have to leave before the "real rush hour starts out here which, in my experience is between 6:30-7. So if you leave at 6 you should be well into nassau by 7 and once you're in the city it will be crowded!

Re: those of you that travel to the city in the morning by car

definitely before 6am

can you take the train in??? there's a 6:57 out of PJ that would get you into penn at 8:48

OR, if that's cutting it too close, there's a 6:18 that gets you into penn at 8:02

Re: those of you that travel to the city in the morning by car

my parents live off exit 63 and there were a bunch of times when I was working in Manhattan (33rd street) that I had to leave from their house and drive in. I left at 6 and sometimes wasn't there on time. Sometimes I was there at 8 - it's a crapshoot. If it's something important that you need to be in by 9 on the nose, I would plan to leave as early as you can.

GL!

eta: hov should help a little bit - i didnt have this option
eta again: why not take the train?

to much of a hassle with the baby.. plus , there are 3 of us so it's so much more expensive to take the train!
