Those of you that used a delayed schedule for vaccinations--question
How long did you keep your child out of the public and keep visitors away?
The reason I am asking is I just had my 2 week appointment with the ped. and spoke with him about only getting 2 shots a month (knowing I would be coming in every month the first 6 months to catch up). When discussing this he said he would do what I would like and feel comfortable with, but then said/questioned "you are not going to bring your child out in public (mall, grocery store, etc.)? Or have visitors come over?" When I said I would be having visitors like family and friends as long as they aren't sick he said that was not a good idea because they could still carry something that the baby could get. Well, he has been having visitors for the last two weeks with no vaccinations! And I am very careful and concerned about his health (if any of you read my post about cold sores/HSV-1 you got an idea
The whole discussion made me feel uneasy like I could choose to use a delayed/broken up schedule, but I would have to keep my child indoors by himself for 6 months. I don't want to be traped in the house for fear of DS catching something. I thought after 2 months their immune systems are stronger and can fight off some germs?
This whole vaccination thing is driving me crazy and I am fairly well educated on the topic.
If you followed a delayed.alternate schedule what did you do about bringing your DC out in public?

Re: Those of you that used a delayed schedule for vaccinations--question
We were careful with DS the first two months, though we didn't keep him completely out of the public or visitors away. We asked people who were sick to let us know before coming over. We were really more concerned about him catching some nasty cold or flu than whooping cough or polio. He got DTap, Hib and Hep B in month 2, and polio and pneumonia in month 3. This month, I put off Hep B and he just got Dtap and Hib--I thought three was too much in retrospect.
Talk to your peditrician, but I don't think you need to keep all people away from DC until you get shots, just limit exposure. Ours was mostly concerned about air travel until he got his first round of shots--now he has one of each, so she felt comfortable with us flying.

Ahhh, I missed your point the first time, sorry.
I don't think you need to keep everyone away until the first round of shots is done. Just be careful, ask people with colds or cold sores and the like to stay away and people to wash their hands before holding your baby. It's not a lot to ask. We avoided taking him into crowded stores, I was more worried about that honestly, but he was also a winter baby. Lots of people take babies into crowds though and they are fine.
