I dont live on the water but I looked at houses on the water and I asked my insurance co. about the extra cost and he said it would be approx. $600.

I spoke to our insurance company the other day b/c we want to buy a house on the water, he told us it would be double what we are paying now.

We live about 2 blocks away from the water, however we did not have to get flood insurance... it depends on the insurance company I believe and where you are.

Same with us. We are between 2 canals and our insurance is $1,600 a year.

Re: Those of you who own homes near the water

I don't think we have flood insurance because we are on a bluff...so no chances of a flood here.

for those of you who responded that you don't need flood insurance, is flooding coverage included in your policy?

Re: Those of you who own homes near the water

I thought it would be so much more myself- I am happy to see such low prices

I have an apartment on the water and getting renters insurance was not easy- only one company would take us

Chat Icon why would it be more difficult to get insurance for an apt on the water vs. a house? I am only assuming it is not hard for the on the water homeowners since no one said anything about it being difficult.

I don't know why- maybe b/c it's renters vs home owners- only Met life would take me- I am right on the Atlantic Ocean in long beach

I really have no idea-

Re: Those of you who own homes near the water

No flooding isnt covered in our current coverage... we didnt take it, cause it was more money, and when speaking to the neighbors,... there hadnt been a flood for like thirty something years..

Re: Those of you who own homes near the water

We are located just over 1 mile from the water and so it was not required. I think it is probably a good idea though Chat Icon
