Re: Those of you who renovated your kitchens...
We're going to be doing our kitchen over in the next few months. DH will be doing it himself with the help of family and friends if needed. I just hope it doesn't take too long!!!

Re: Those of you who renovated your kitchens...
DH and I are trying to figure out if it is worth it for us to hire someone. I ALWAYS think it is because I don't want to wait 6 months for my kitchen to be done. Has anyone done it in a few weeks? If DH took a week off of work could he do it himself? I am trying to be realistic here. Thanks!
BTW - we have a 3 1/2 month old and cannot be without a kitchen for long.

When we move into our house we want to redo the kitchen...but we don't think we can do it ourselves. I am scared to see how pricey this is!

We did too but we also used my FIL's firm.
He's one of the very few contractors out there who will not start a job until all materials are ready and on site.
It takes so long for most jobs because they will rip out your kitchen just so they can get the deposit money on your cabinets etc. Custom cabinets and some other materials can take as much as 12 weeks to come in. Many contractors need your deposit money to fund current jobs... there is a lot of "robbing Peter to pay Paul"
We could not order our cabinets and measure for them until we closed on the house that's the only reason why it did take as long as it did. My FIL said my kitchen (and we vaulted the ceiling and had a plumbing wall that also fed 2 upstairs baths that were also being worked on) under normal ciurcumstances would have taken 2-3 weeks.

Re: Those of you who renovated your kitchens...
We did all of the major stuff before moving in as well. The kitchen is alright, just not my taste. Here is a pic. It is not the best pic, but as you can see the kitchen needs to be updated. The appliances are all 5 years old, so an update is not urgent. I just want to get ideas. We have a laundry room off of the kitchen and I wanted to knock out the laundry room and extend the kitchen. Then, put the washer and dryer in a walk in closet type thing. Anyway here's a pic of the kitchen:
