Those of you who were on an SSRI/Antidepressant while pregnant
Did your baby go to the NICU right after you gave birth? My friend was on Lexapro and her baby went to the NICU w/ breathing problems... they said the two werent related, but she still feels like maybe it was related...

Re: Those of you who were on an SSRI/Antidepressant while pregnant
I wasn't on one but honestly, I think it probably is not related. I know she probably feels guilty, like she did this to the baby but I think if she was depressed enough to need the meds, she was better off maintaining them while preggo. I think any doctor would agree. for your friend.
ETA: I was thinking about this post and I just wanted to add. The doctor telling her one had nothing to do with the other is very different than a family member or friend saying they probably aren't related. A friend might say it so you don't feel bad but a doctor would need to tell you the facts on your child's health. So I don't think any doctor or hospital staff would tell her that if it's not true.

ITA. My baby went to the NICU with side effects from a heart medication I was taking. The medication was considered safe in pregnancy. They came right out and told me that I was in the 1% of people that have this happen. The baby's symptoms were the exact ones listed as possibly happening to a small percentage (plus beta blockade). In fact, we were later asked to participate in a study about it. That involved a discussion with the study doctor and providing him with medical information. He was going to present my case to the NICU staff and residents so that they know the potential side effects. Lots of babies go to the NICU and in most cases, there is not an explanation.
