Those of you with gas & Seperate hot water heaters
Sorry! DH and i are purchasing a home and it is Gas heating, cooking, dryer. It also has a seperate hot water heater. I know having a seperate hot water heater is good but does that mean i turn off the burner in the summer. How does this work now? TIA! I will have MANY MANY more questions

You do not turn off anything. Just turn the thermostat off for the heat, but do not turn off the main burner.

We turned off our boiler over the summer and the hot water heater still works fine.

What heats the water? Maybe it depends on the system?
I just converted over, so this is something I need to find out as well.

The hot water heater heats the water. Our boiler/refurnice only supplies the heat in the winter. I'm not sure if there are different systems or not.

I dont understand what kind of money it can save you?? If you are not using your heat, your burner is not on.
I would rather not turn my off and on...its not like a TV to get it started, KWIM?

Depends on your system. If you have a flame to heat your water heater you can turn your burner off, if you do not then you have to leave it on. Our burner flames our hot water heater so we have to keep ours on...
