Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
...how much lifting are you really doing of your toddler? I know my OB said there is not any getting around it.....sometimes I feel like it makes me less careful about lifting other things as I am so used to picking him up.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
DS will be 2 this weekend and I still lift him at 30 weeks pregnant. It is less and less as I am further in my pregnancy but I still lift him. I also lift other things that are about 25-30 lbs. With my first pregnancy I did not do that, but since I am so used to lifting DS it is not that bad for me. I am just careful to lift with my knees and ask how much things weigh before I lift them.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
While I was pg with DD #2 (7 weeks old) I still picked up my 2 year old almost the same amount. It got harder at the very end of the pregnancy and that is about the only time I stopped lifting her so much. Sometimes she just wanted me to hold her so I would let her curl up to me on the couch when at home so we could have special cuddle time (we still do this while I am holding the baby)

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
28 weeks today and I haven't changed a thing as to picking her up....swinging her around in the water...etc etc. Sure I can feel a little pull here and there when I do it, so when that happnes I just stop and take it easy.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
This past pregnancy I carried my DD everyday (she was under 25 lbs) and I also did multiple mommy and me classes so I was chasing her around the equipment, basically we did everything that I did before getting pregnant. Some days were more uncomfortable than others - but I never had any issues. It is kind of hard not to pick up a child under 2.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
I am 29 weeks pregnant and my son just turned 2 a month ago. He is also way over 30lbs. I still pick him up all the time. My husband is a teacher and has been home this summer - so that helps - but there are still plenty times throughout the day when I have no choice but to carry him.
It's getting to be very hard. I'm more concerned with not being able to pick him up after the c-section though!

I'm worried about this too. Kaydyn will turn 2 at the end of January and I will have my c-section the end of Feb/beg of March. I'm worried that once my DH goes back to work (after a week) that's is going to be very hard to pick Kaydyn up. We're going to transition her to a toddler bed so I won't have to lift her as much.
When I found out I was pg one of the 1st things my MIL asked me was if I was going to ask the dr if I could still pick up Kaydyn. She's 18 months...how could I not pick her up?
So far it's been ok, except when I'm feeling really nauseous and she feels the need to squirm and kick my stomach.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
During most of my pregnancy, I was allowed to lift and carry DS as usual since I was used to doing that before I got PG. However, now that I'm on bedrest for preterm labor I'm not allowed to lift him at all
When I hit 37 weeks, I'll be allowed to go back to carrying him as usual.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
Almost 26wks and Ryan is 16 months and a solid 26-27lbs. I am making an effort to let him walk more holding my hand, and DH usually carries him up the stairs if he's home, or I let him climb up himself. DH gets upset when I carry him around - worried about me, most of the time I'm fine with it, but it's pretty much impossible outdoors in the heat - I can barely carry my own weight in this humidity.

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
Im not allowed to do any heavy lifting, but lucikly there are not too many times I need to lift him. Other then to put him on the changing table, pick him up from something. It is only a second or two here and there...I never carry him anywhere and he climbs into his car seat on his own etc....

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
I lift, bend and reach all day long. My 16 month old is 30 lbs and I am exhausted lifting her up but there is no way around it.

This is me. People keep yelling at me b/c I am lugging and lifting things like I always have just b/c I am so used to lifting my DS its just an extension of that.
My DS is 23 months old and probably about 27/28 lbs and there is no getting around it - in and out of the carseat - in and out of the crib - washing hands - up and down stairs - bedtime routine etc. etc. however, i know i could be better about it than I am. I am just about 16 wks and I can tell it is getting more and more difficult and I worry how I will do thisgoingon.

THis is a good tip - i have to start making my DS do this. But half the time he isn't happy to be leaving so its not the most cooperative situation

Re: Those pregnant with a toddler at home...
At 36 weeks I try not to pick up my 23 month old DD. It hurts my back so much. I lift her in to the car seat and she can get out her self. I feel bad because there are times when she just wants mommy to hold her. We usually will the sit somewhere together so I can hold her on my lap. After my c/s its going to be just as hard.
