those protesters outside of the newer puppy shop in stony brook..
on 347...they are aways outside with their signs about they sell puppy mill puppies..
which i'm all against, of course.
but how do they know for sure? is there a website or something that lists establishments who buy from mills?

Yup, reputable breeders won't sell to puppy stores so it's kind of a given that a store gets their puppies from a puppy mill.

ALL pet stores get their puppies from backyard breeders or mills. NO reputable breeder would EVER sell their puppies to a pet store.

99.9% of puppies in puppy stores come from puppy mills

Exactly. My friend is currently fostering a dog that was rescued from a puppy mill. It's terrible what they do to them .

Yup, it's all of them.
There are a ton of great animals on Petfinder, which lists shelters and breed specific rescues too. That's how we found our second dog, and we had 125 purebreed dogs to choose from.

If you decide on a kitten- definitely go to a shelter or rescue- there are TONS of baby kittens to be had. You really don't even need a breeder unless you are looking for a specific pure breed kitten.
Go to any Petco and they will have kittens on display from local animal rescue groups.
That's where I found my babies and they are the best things ever!

ITA! I was at a shelter this weekend and they had the littlest kittens for adoption. you can also find them at local shelters on petfinder.com
If you don't plan to breed your cat, the shelter cats are perfect! and it will cost you less, and save a life!
