Those returning to work after 6 weeks

I am planning on returning to work right after the 6 weeks by NY has been paid...and I will be working Full Time. My hours are 12-8 and DHs are 8-6ish. So, we were going to be having family members come to the house from 12-6 to watch our lil Peanut M-F while we are at work. But, my sister just gave me a look during lunch saying that I should be part time....
Honestly...I make the money in the relationship...and I'm already really freaked out about taking that full 6 weeks off with only 170 a week from lovely NY!
Do you think that it's 'safe' for the baby for me (and anyone else returning to work FT at 6 weeks) during the bonding time? Otherwise I dont know what I am going to do. She just sorta freaked me out a little and want to make sure that I will be doing the best for our little one...
What is everyone else opinion ?? Please help!!

Unless along with the "look" your sister offered to pay half your salary and give you any benefits you may lose by going part-time, then she should keep her opinions to herself.

It is hard enough being a new mom, add going back to work full-time to support your family, you don't need any help in the guilt trip dept. from outsiders. You and DH need to do what is best for YOUR family.

Plenty of mom's go back to work that early and their little ones are fine. Chat Icon

i'm also going back after 6 weeks - but my DH will be staying home with the baby... and i'm hoping that my mom will come and stay with us for a while too (we live in CA and our families are in NY)

i work in a school as a speech-language pathologist, so i will probably leave the house at 6:45 and get home around 3 (ideally).

i definitely think it's "safe" - whatever that means... the baby is still going to be cared for and loved! and you'll be home in the morning with the baby, and your Dh will get a few hours with the baby in evening.

i completely understand your concerns though - i have many of the same! it's hard to imagine leaving such a small baby while we go back to work - but i have to just remember that i'm doing what's best for MY family and while it might not work for others, this is how things are going to be best for us. Thanks sooo much...that's just the type of news that I needed to hear. I was just getting nervous....b/c she said that it could interfear with the bonding time....and that reeeallly freaked me out. DH and I did tons of research before saying anything for sure, but we both think that our lil Peanut will be fine for that time frame... DH actually thinks it's gonna be harder on me then it is on our baby. LOL...and I think he's right. I have NO idea how I'm gong to concentrate!!!

aww......I'm sorry that she put you on a guilt trip. It's hard enough to think about going back to work at 6,12 or however many weeks without someone making you feel bad.

Ofcourse your baby will be okay! So will you! Chat Icon

Re: Those returning to work after 6 weeks

I'm going back after 6 weeks also because I'll be doing my hospital internship and have no choice. That being said, I like the idea of having a career since I've worked so hard for it so I don't let anyone make me feel guilty. The baby will be just fine as long as he is surrounded by loving people and as long as you make sure you spend some quality time with him/her when you are home.

I get tired of the people who make you feel like you have to pick one or the other. So much has changed yet so much stays the same. Why didn't your sister say that your DH should work part time?

She said that the baby needs more time with mommy.... and that killed me. DH is going to be working 2 jobs, and he's actually nervous that Peanut won't know who he is., But we decided that we are going to make the weekends "Baby and Me" days... where no one else wiill interfear with us having time away from the baby... and once baby gets older, the weekends we will go where ever the baby wants... to an extenet. LOL.

We both worked hard to get where we are today... and taking more time off from work, or going part time will really kill both of our carears...
I will talk more clearly to my sister about it again..

Thanks girls!!!

Re: Those returning to work after 6 weeks

I'm in the same situation as you. I will also be going back to work after 6 wks and DH will be working 2 jobs. With my first son I started work after 4 wks and at 12 y/o he is still attached to me. Just use the time you're with the baby to love and play with him/her as much as possible. You'll be fine and so will the baby. Don't feel guilty, you're doing what you must inorder to provide a loving home and future for your child

slap slap slap slap slap.

that would have given her a new "look" Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really don't have patience for that bullshyte, to be quite honest.

staying out of work more than 6 weeks could interefere with feeding and mortgage time too.

besides, we've got a 9month head start bonding with our babies. it's not too bad to let the rest of the family catch up.

my child will NEVER EVER forgot who mommy is. or else, see opening line Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

going back to work will be hard enough. anyone will an opinion can suck it. Chat Icon
