OMG!! I was just going to post this!
Great minds think alike.

I am going to ask on the parenting board- cause I am talking to so many people that are saying you don't even need half of the things you find on lists.

I am right there with you. I have no idea because everyone tells you something different.

Re: Those that are close...what are you packing in your hospital bag?

I just finished packing at 36 weeks.

I packed:

Snacks for DH and I
Socks
change of clothes, pjs for DH
Both of our toiletries?(mine are all sample sizes)
slippers
Clothes for going home day-i packed addidas pants, a t shirt and a sweatshirt
hair bands
makeup
chapstick
hard candy
crib sign
pillow
My nature sound soother for labor
phone numbers for DH
Money

For the baby
Side snap t shirt
going home outfit
hat
socks
blanket

I am lucky, the mall is right across the street from my hospital, so anything i forgot, or want someone can go get.

I decided not to bring my own pjs, robe, undies, I am just going to wear what the hospital gives me. I don't want to ruin my things if I bleed. My hospital gives you those mesh panties that look sooo comfy.

I did buy pads for at home though.

Re: Those that are close...what are you packing in your hospital bag?

In adddition to the list:

--cell phone charger
--hair dryer (I felt so much better after a shower, blow-drying my hair, and some make-up)
--definitely pajamas, flip-flops, and socks...again, I felt so much better with clean clothes on after my shower...
I loved the hospital maternity pads because they are so much longer that regular pads and I used my own undies and didn't bleed through anything so I wasted space with all the pads I brought (also, get as many pads, creams, and Tucks from the hospital that you can, these came in SUPER handy at home for me--and don't forget the squeeze bottle they give ya, sweet relief when you go to the bathroom)...

ETA: don't forget a pillow, the hospital ones stink...

Re: Those that are close...what are you packing in your hospital bag?

below is what i have from another post::

Toiletries
Bathrobe
PJ's (preferably a long shirt because the nurses will be prodding and poking all the time and it will be annoying to keep pulling pants on and off)
Thick pads (the hospital provides them but they're HUGE!)
Tucks
Extra undies that you plan on tossing afterwards
Going home outfit for you and baby
Slippers
Socks
Snacks
Hair ties
your own pillow
Flip flops for the shower
Clothes and toiletries for DH
If you're planning on breastfeeding: Lanolin, breast pads, a boppy pillow (My LIFESAVER for breastfeeding after having an unexpected c-section) and nursing bras
I also brought a small cd-player for when I was laboring - it really helped to have calming music.

Re: Those that are close...what are you packing in your hospital bag?

Is ALL this stuff necessary??? I would be interested to know what is truly needed and what is not. I'm only going to be there 3 days, 5 tops (if I have a c-section) and I don't want to pack too much stuff.

All of my stuff fit in a small rolling suitcase and I packed the baby's stuff in a diaper bag. I had a separate bag for L&D and sent that home with DH after the baby was born...

Honestly, I used everything I brought except for the pads I packed...and I went in on a Wednesday night to be induced, had the baby on Thursday night (11pm) and was discharged on Sat at 11 am....
