Those that bought furniture from N. Carolina- NEED ADVICE
For those that have received their furniture:
What company did you use?
How long did you have to wait between placing the order and delivery?
The latest updated delivery time-table seems way too long to me and I just need to see the "norm".
Thanks

I live in NC and bought a sectional from Lane Furniture. They said it would take 10 weeks cause it is custom made in Tennessee

Re: Those that bought furniture from N. Carolina
I live in NC and we bought our dining room and bedroom set from Oakwood furniture...not sure if they deliever to NY though...but locally it was like two weeks
Our couch we got from Furnitureland South...which we had to wait 4 months for it, b/c they said it comes custom from Italy...they are overpriced for NC so we won't buy from them again. My parents got their couches from them b/c they deliver to NY and I think it took about 6 six weeks with no problems

Re: Those that bought furniture from N. Carolina
OK, now I am pizzed. We ordered the furniture on January 2 and I was told, by the owner of the company, no less, that it would take 8 weeks. It always takes 8 weeks for Bassett.
Ummm, alright sounds ok. So DH moves our old dressers into the nursery. I call back the third week of February and am told "Oh no, that will take to the end of April" It has to come from overseas. I don't care if it comes out of their "you know what". 8 weeks is now 4 months!!!
They have a 50% deposit on our credit card (which of course we paid because we don't finance on credit cards) but that's not the real problem. Not even the fact that all of our clothes are in crates like it's 1989 and we are back in the dorms.
The REAL problem is I will have not one, but TWO, month old babies (or less), I will be completely sleep deprived from nursing round the clock, DH will be on a business trip in late April and I'm supposed to have a bank check ready for them whatever the delivery day is
Sorry for the vent. If the furniture comes after the babies I will not have one second to deal with it.
Any advice? Should I cancel the order? Contact the credit card company?
BTW: It is not from any of the above mentioned companies and I checked them out with the BBB, no complaints.
Thanks for listening.

Have you spoken to management at the place to see if there was any way they can speed up your delivery date?

We ordered from Royal Interiors (our dining room furniture which is Canadel). WE have a great experience, but we knew from the start that it would take 16 weeks, and it did!!!
Sorry you are having a bad experience...

Yes, I've explained the situation every time I called, including the initial order.

this seems like a long time, but it also seems out of your control - some things you just have to let go

Re: Those that bought furniture from N. Carolina- NEED ADVICE
If it were me, knowing that I was going to have my hands full in a couple of months, I would have ordered the furniture in November or December just to have a cushion. I have special ordered furniture in the past and it has never been delivered exactly on time. Maybe you can arrange to have a family member there to help you.

Re: Those that bought furniture from N. Carolina- NEED ADVICE
I am so sorry that happened to you. I bought furniture from a N. Carolina furniture place on route 110 and they had a long wait period as well. They told us up front that it would take 20 weeks and it came in 12 weeks. So we were pretty happy that it came in less time. We had an overall good experience with the company.

Yes, I've explained the situation every time I called, including the initial order.
Then I would tell them since they can't accommodate you that you have to cancel your order

Thanks everyone.
I could understand if they originally said it would take four months but the owner of the company himself said 6-8 weeks max. He assured me that they get a lot of orders for Bassett furniture and that's the timeframe between ordering and delivering to NY. I think there is too much of a difference between 8 weeks and 16 weeks, especially since they already have a 50% deposit.
After calling them one more time, I faxed them today with written notice of the cancellation of my order, asked for written confirmation that they received my cancellation within 48 hours and refund to my credit card. I also contacted my credit card company and explained the situation.
Thank you all for your info and advice.
