Re: Those that work full time...
This year I did not (she turned 1). It was busy at work and I figured she did not know any better. Maybe when she gets older-before she is in school, I don't know.

Re: Those that work full time...
Her 1st birthday was on a Sat this year and will be on a Sunday next year so we won't have to worry until she turns 3. I will try to take off if I can but my job gets very busy at the end of the month and her bday is on the 24th.

Re: Those that work full time...
I will this year...He goes to daycare/preschool 2 days a week (Tuesday/Thursday). This year his birthday falls on Tuesday, I am sending him until 2:00 so he can celebrate it with his friends. While he is at school I am going to decorate the entire house with balloons and stuff and wrap all of his presents, so he is surprised when he comes home.
I am really excited to see his expression because he will be 3 and he REALLY UNDERSTANDS that it's his birthday this year Every morning wakes up, goes to the calendar and says" September 22nd can't come quick enough"
(I have the 22nd circled in red marker and then I put an X on the what day it is)

Re: Those that work full time...
I think I will now that you brought it up...I take off for mine ...so spending a stress free day with my babe on her bday seems like the best reason in the world to take a day and bake cupcakes and do something simple and special, even if its just laying around or eating icecream or going to the park...thats what I did for Mothers day before I went to my moms house, since my hubby was away...we just shared many special simple moments and it was great...and she was only a few months old at that time! So her first should be sooo much fun...TAKE OFF AND ENJOY!!

Re: Those that work full time...
DH & I planned to take DD to the city last year on her b-day. Life, however, intervened, and instead I was giving an oral argument at the Appellate Division. This year she is in daycare, and if they do something special for the kids' b-days I won't be deprviving her.

Re: Those that work full time...
I will when it falls on a weekday...I like to do it up on her b-day (even just small little things), and in my job I'm able to take off during that time of year.
I've been fortunate that her 1st and 2nd b-days have fallen on weekends.

Re: Those that work full time...
DS bday is in two weeks, I am def. taking off. I didn't get to see him for more than a moment on his actual birth, and then it was another couple of days before i saw him again. So his birthday means so much to me, I want to do something special with him

Re: Those that work full time...
DS's 1st bday is a Friday this year inDecember & I decided to take off so we can go to NYC for the day. DH will take off too. The next 2 years his bdy will be on the weekend so i wont have to do it again until his 4th bday. I probably will still take off.

Re: Those that work full time...
Since DS is only 3.5 months I obviously had off when he was born. LOL!
I haven't thought of it yet. Maybe take a half day and if it winds up on a weekend then no

Re: Those that work full time...
We took Ryan to Disney for his 1st - so yes. The next 2 years it falls on Saturday, then Sunday - so I'll see what's going on when he's 4.
I'll def. take off for the next DC's 1st.

Re: Those that work full time...
No, Never occurred to me to take the day off. We always give them a special breakfast in the morning, take them to daycare, and then cut a cake in the evening. Most times we'll do something small with family and friends on the weekend.
I don't think I would want to start a tradition like that so that they come to expect taking a "day off" once they are school aged.

Re: Those that work full time...
I don't take off for mine or theirs if it falls on a work day.
Actually they go to a center so I send in stuff for a party. They have a school party and a home party. I think its fun for them to be with their friends. I do try to get off a little early though so we can do something fun for dinner.
