Those Who Give Blood - Please Read This, I Know Someone Who Could Use Your Help!!!!
A co-worker of mine,has a 21 month old son, who was recently diagnosed with MLL, Mixed Lineage Leukemia. Currently, he is in Stony Brook University Hospital receiving treatment. This treatment includes chemotherapy, blood transfusions and platelet transfusions.
As this treatment will be ongoing, I am asking anyone who regularly donates blood to possibly donate whole blood or platelets on behalf of this child. To do this, please contact the blood donor program at Stony Brook, 631-444-2634 and make an appointment to donate.
Please make sure that you note your donation on behalf of this child's name. FM me and I will forward that info to you.
Please keep my co-worker and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

ETA: I just found out his blood type is o+.
Update 3/11/08
I just found out that in order to donate platelets you don't need to wait the required 52 days like you do with whole blood. Additionally, regardless of your blood type he can receive platelets from anyone!

I am in the process of finding out. For platelets, I don't think it matters.

I think Im a universal donor and can give to anyone...not sure though..I will actually be at StonyBrook the next couple of weeks...What is the blood type?

To the OP -- I'm O+ and I'll donate. FWD me the info.
ETA -- If it helps, I also test negative for some virus (it's on my donor card) -- so I know that my blood can be given to babies.

I can't give whole blood, but I can give platelets and I have before.
