Those who had a Level II Sono & did not want to know the sex...
DH & I are going to inform them right away about us wanting to be surprised. I am just so afraid that they might slip - 'he' or 'she' while talking about the sono.
Also - my 20 week sono is done at a separate location than my Ob/Gyn office. Does your office get notified of the gender? Do I have to remind them everytime that I have a monthy appointment as well?

We told the sono tech as soon as we walked in! we also told her that the Dr said theres no reason for anyone to know- so to please not write it in the chart to avoid any possibility of someone slipping!! The tech never even went to that "area" so no one knows!!

Just be aware that they sometimes use a gender to refer to the baby and not really slipping.
I wanted to know the gender, and my tech kept refering to the baby as "he". So I thought she was just slipping and telling us the baby was a "he". However, when she officially looked, we saw that the baby is a "she".
There are only 2 choices for gender, so the tech may choose 1 to refer to the baby.

We plan on telling the sono tech that we don't want to know. My doctor knows that we don't want to know and it is in our file.
I understand that sometimes people refer to the baby with a he/she. Afterall "he" is the dominant pronoun so sometimes it is used.
It doesn't bother me if the tech and doctor know but we don't want to.

We had an amnio and we DO know.. but even still, my drs/nurses never ever refer to the baby as a certain sex in all the times I have been there.

Yeah, I asked the tech after the sono if she knew the baby's sex, and she said that she did not even look down there bc the baby was moving all over. The subsequent sonos I have had since have been the same deal.

I had mine done at NSUH Manhasset and the tech asked if we wanted to know. We said yes, otherwise she wasn't even going to try to figure it out.

it was fine-- we had no problems with anyone accidentally slipping and letting us know the sex.

i told the tech as soon as i sat down that we didnt want to know. The Dr's never even discussed the gender so if its in the file, they definitly kept it to themselves.

For our first, we planned to tell the tech but as soon as we walked in it was the first thing she asked us. She said she could scan in a way that we couldn't see so I don't think she even knew. I don't believe it was marked in my chart either.
Hopefully it works out the same for this one.

Re: Those who had a Level II Sono & did not want to know the sex...
If you REALLY don't want to know, you can request that they do not list the sex on any paperwork. There is no medical reason to do so. I didn't want the sex of the baby listed on tons of paperwork so they left it out. They asked me a few times if I was sure though.
We had a CVS so its already there but buried in the bottom of the file. I do warn any new person and remind my doc each time, that we don't want to know. He laughes each time and says with the amount of patients he has he would have to look it up anyhow to know himself.
