Those who have capes..was it a surprise?
Did you like the cape look or did it just happen? What attracted you to it.

Re: Those who have capes..was it a surprise?
I grew up in a cape and hated it, but we bought one anyway. I saw the "potential" in my house, plus it had what we were looking for at the time... basement, garage, 2 baths, 4 BRs.

I have definitely been hanging around with a 5 year old for too long. My first though was "Superpowers aren't real, what is she talking about?"
Sorry I have a ranch.

I personally love capes, but we couldn't afford one yet. I love traditional homes like capes. I actually love the eaves (even though its tough with furniture). I'm not into the whole split, splanch thing

it's funny, I grew up in a cape and didn't mind it, but I didn't realize until we started house hunting that they really do vary in size and style!
The one I grew up in was extended and overall just a nice size. Ours is much more modest but one thing that's great about capes is their potential for remodeling.

Originally when househunting I thought that I didn't like capes but when it came down to it all of the houses we liked actually were capes. We ended up with a 1930's cape and I love it...its so cozy and homey....I love that our bedroom isn't on the main floor (so noone can see my unmade bed)

Re: Those who have capes..was it a surprise?
I actually always hated capes LOL but then we bought one. Ours had an extension on the side, full basment and garage and it just seemed to really meet our needs. I am really happy with our home. I think the bedrooms upstairs have a lot of character with the slants and the colors we picked out and how we decorated. I think they will make really great rooms for kids down the line. We may even dormer the house oneday when the time comes. But yes, I am very happy with our home.

Re: Those who have capes..was it a surprise?
I didn't think that I would like the cape because of the slanted ceilings, but it really doesn't bother me at all. I think it's because we painted the rooms a lighter color, so they look nice and airy.
We have an expanded Levitt cape, with a dining room extension, which I wouldn't be able to live without.
And who knows, maybe one day we will dormer. There is plenty of room for expansion with a cape.

Re: Those who have capes..was it a surprise?
Danielle grew up in a custom cape that the owner before her parents built himself.
We bought a levitt cape because it was reasonably priced and we saw the potential it had for the future.
If we could do it all over again, we would of waited, and saved our money to buy a bigger house with 4 plus bedrooms and 2 plus bathrooms, a basement, and a garage. Right now we have 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a garage but no basement.
I dont regret buying this house because it was a good investment.
I like the look of the outside of the house, but I dont like the slanted ceilings inside the house in the bedrooms.
I wish we had a full dormered cape.....

Same here - we have a levitt cape and we like the house but feel we need a basement and it is much more expensive to dormer than I realized. It would be cheaper to move.
