Those Who Have Cats...
What brand food do you feed them?
I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for years to get Lucy off of Iams and I am once again looking for suggestions on what is good.
Thanks...

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
I was feeding mine Natural Balance, which was fine. Then we found out Lydia has kidney issues, so we switched to Science Diet K/D. Eddie is on the chubby side, and the vet said it would be good for him, as well.

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
Ugh, it's so frustrating b/c I detest Iams...but Lucy has a really bad/sensitive stomach - she's at the vet as I type being sedated (yet again ) so that they can extract her impacted feces.
I am at my wits end - the Iams has RICE in it...which is a binder in us and them I just haven't found the right food that doesn't irritate her stomach. If it were up to me I would give her only natural brands...but they seem to affect her negatively too.
PLUS I have been giving her weight control for years, reducing the amount as well, and she is STILL considered fat at ~17 lbs. Thankfully she was only ~15lbs today...so hopefully after this extraction I can get her down to an ideal 13lbs. Gah.
Sorry for the rant I am incredibly frustrated and upset today.

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
I'm sorry!
I hear you about the weight issues. Eddie was 20 lbs, and on the K/D he dropped to 17, which is an improvement, but still not "good". I swear, I don't know what else we can do. I measure out his food in a measuring cup, only give him treats after a vet visit (1x a year) and try to get him to run around...and yet he is stuck at 17lbs!
Is making your own food an option?

I looked into that and while it seems doable for dogs, it doesn't seem doable for cats. Cats need different nutrients and not for nothing, but I'm not about to prepare raw meat for my cat (I don't eat it and the thought of touching it skeeves me).
I guess I will play around until the right combo works.
Losing 3lbs is great for a cat - that's about 30lbs for us...but I hear you, it's still not enough. No matter how big-boned Lucy is

I feed my cats Innova Lite dry food, Merrick wet food (which they LOVE and beg for). The kitten gets Wellness dry and canned food.

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
I have a cat that has digestive issues, and I have another with a weight issue. I just switched to Eagle Pack Holistic Select Cat Anchovy, Sardine & Salmon Meal Dry
It seemed to cover both problems, and BOTH of my cats are doing really well on it.

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
Oh my god I SOOO feel your pain. My girl is a total IAMS pouches kitty and will not eat anything else since the recall. The only thing she will barely tolerate is the wellness cans. I am actually considerring going back to some of the IAMS cans that were not recalled and are still available cuz I have tried every food under the sun and she is just not interested

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
My "baby" (He's 4 years old) has colitis and had it pretty bad when he was a kitten. He used to be on Iams, he's been on Nutro's Natural Choice since about 16 weeks as per the vet, it does wonders for his tummy and he's been fine, he loves it, actually.
Good luck with your baby!

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
My cat was DH's before we met so I had no control over the wet food but it's Fancy Feast and dry I keep changing it up. Right now she's eating Cat Chow Naturals which she loves.

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
My two ONLY used to eat Sheba, now they changed it and they won't eat the new one!
So finally we found that they like the little pouches of whiskas choice cuts & tender bites in gravy! They will not eat anything fish flavored (or fresh fish) and never have. I also sometimes sprinkle some of the whiskas chicken & beef dry food on top on the wet food (can't remember the name of it)
Good luck!

Re: Those Who Have Cats...
I bought some Wellness cans last week - the chicken and the turkey - and have been mixing them with her current Iams. Lucy seems to really like the Wellness (the chicken over the turkey which shocks me b/c this cat can be in a coma, under an eave in the attic and will run downstairs in 2.3 seconds if she hears DH open some deli turkey ).
In any case...she likes the food but she's taken to "doing number 2" outside of her box (in the basement, thankfully) since her return from the vet (and after her extraction procedure). I can't get angry with her but it is very frustrating to see the little piles on the floor.
