Those who have used Mutt Manners

We are thinking about hiring them to help us train Murray but they used a remote controlled collar. It gives off an annoying vibration to the dog (not painful) if the dog does not listen.

To those with the experiences, is this collar annoying? Since if the dog doesnt listen you have to give a correction with the collar but you have to have the remote to do that. So you always have to have it near? Does your dog still wear the collar everyday, although fully trained? What are your experiences with the collar?

And please no flaming abuot the collar. I am fully convinced (and tried it out myslef) that it is not painful. It is similar to a collar/leash correction when leash training

TIA

Re: Those who have used Mutt Manners

We used mutt manners....
Jessi listened when we used the vibration setting...we no longer use it on her...we have been using it on our puppy Riley...she doesn't listen to the vibration setting either, so we have to nick her... It gets put on when she goes outside (since we have no fence)(also to deter her from eating the other dogs poops) and when we go for walks. I do not leave it on for anything else.
When the collar is on, the remote is either in my hand or around my neck...that way I can give her an immediate correction, even if I'm not close by.
She does not wear is everyday...we just actually started to put it on her again, b/c she is trying to "test the boundaries" as far as staying in the yard goes. She is onl y 8mths old, so I don't expect her to be perfect yet.

Personally, I am very glad that we trained our dogs with the collar...All three of them are trained off leash (which is especially great when you don't have a fence) and I can even bring them into the front yard, with no problems.

Re: Those who have used Mutt Manners

I put it on Scout when I am working with him -- like in the yard for a half hour every day in the beginning (before DD, lol). When we go to group class (not so often since DD). I still put it on when we go to the park.

Other than in the park when we encounter other dogs and he is off leash, I rarely push the button. Now when we say "tap, tap, tap" he immediately corrects himself. Ex: I tell him to come (in the yard) and he wants to continue sniffing - so I say "Come - tap tap-" and at this point he is already coming to me.

It works great - it's like a tap on the shoulder - they do waht you want because it is annoying. And they learn really quickly.

HOWEVER -- I think you said your dog has aggression issues? In which case they may recommend leaving the collar on all the time, at least when you are home.
