Those who went to Dominican Republic..
Did you just stay at the resort your whole trip, or did you do anything off the resort??

We traveled outside the resort and went to the old town.IMO, I can't say it was anything special.I'm sorry, although I made the best out of my trip, I don't care for the DR much.

the only sightseeing trip that we did was to go to Santo Domingo... we enjoy finding out about places that we go to so we liked the trip... but it takes about 3 hours on a bus from Punta Cana, the buses are not that great, ours broke on a way back... but we still had fun

We stayed at he resort the whole time. The armed guards at the entrance to the resort were enough to make us a little freaked about leaving the resort!

i love this site....a friend of mine wants to go to the dr so bad....but armed guards!!!??? i would have a panic attack and be on the first plane out of there

We went to a resort in Puerto Plata and one day left the resort to go to on a dolphin swim. We were about 45 minutes away from the swim site and the drive there was very interesting.

We went to Punta Cana 4 years ago. We did 2 tours. We went to a Cigar Factory (it lasted only a couple of hours). We also went on an ATV tour. This was great. It was all day. Plus they give you lunch and drinks.

I forgot about the armed guards...they were all over the place!

We did the ATV tour, snorkeling and swimming with nurse sharks and stingrays (they also took us to this little area where we were at least 200 feet from the shore but you could stand) and a deep sea fishing trip.
I liked the snorkeling tour and the ATV tour. The fishing I could have done without.

sorry I have to laugh at some of the responses. The economic dynamic of the Caribbean creates the need for armed guards, and interesting scenery. You want America? Go to Hawaii.
