Those who work out at the gym
How many times a week do you go and what machines to you use/ classes to you take etc? I just joined a gym for the first time and I'm looking to get a sense of what people''s routines are. Thanks !

Re: Those who work out at the gym
I shoot for 5 days a week, but with work & all, 3-4 is more realistic for me. Treadmill running for about 40 mins. (sometimes less, sometimes more) Some days if I'm not in the mood to run I'll do the elliptical or the bike or the rowing machine for cardio instead. I use the machines for triceps, biceps, shoulders/back, butt and legs. And some streching when I'm done. I never take classes but lately I've been thinking about trying out a spin class or a zumba class.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
With 2 LO, a gym with no daycare, I do what I can.
I average 4 days out of the week. I do about 30minutes of cardio and then weights (mostly free). Some days I do all cardio, some all weights. When I am really energized I do a cardio/plyometric/wt training.
It must be working, because I am in better shape then before kids, when I was a trainer/instructor

Im usually at the gym between 5-7 days a week. Not all of those days are lifting days though. I weight train 4x per week and do cardio usually 6 days a week. I typically use the treadmill, stair climber , spin bike and elliptical for cardio and try to mix up the duration and intensity. I often omit cardio on my leg training days. If I do cardio on legs day, Imake it part of my workout by doing HIIT cardio.
As for the weight machines, I don't really use them except for hamstring curls and leg extensions. I use barbells, dumbbells, cables etc. I find the machines don't give me as great of a workout because I can't use the full range of motion.
Im super into training...FM me if you have any questions and have fun!

Re: Those who work out at the gym
I go to Zumba at Lucille Roberts 3 times a week. I joined Team Extreme also and I go there 2-3 times a week. So usually I'm at the gym 5-6 days. I will also do DVDs at home on days I don't go to the gym, but not always.
ETA: Boot camp is a mix of machines, cardio and stuff like push ups, squats, sit ups...etc.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
usually 5 days a week. This is my schedule if this helps:
- one day is a longer run, usually 4-5 miles. I don't do weights this day - 2 days is interval work, usually only 15 minutes, and then I will do 35-40 minutes of free weights and use the smith machine for weighted squats. - another day I will do 45 minutes of cardio- usually the arc trainer and 20 minutes of abs - one day of functional training class which is drills, free weights, lunges, squats, burpees for one hour
I do try to change it around every once and a while though because I get bored and I try to shock my body every once in a while but for the most part, I do something like this each week. HTH!

Re: Those who work out at the gym
3 Days a week (in the morning) plus a night Zumba class once a week. I HATE working out so if I go anymore than that I wont stick with it.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
I try to go about 5 days a week. I usually do the elliptical or a similar machine with more of an incline for 30 to 45 minutes. I sometimes use the weight machines, but I never take classes.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
I see a trainer 3x a week and then do 2 days of cardio.
On the days I have the trainer, I usually get there a little early and do a 20 minute warm up cardio (a light jog, elliptical or bike). Then we do 30 minutes of free weights combo moves (ex. lunges and curls, squats and shoulder presses, etc). We also use a few machines & integrate abs & push ups.
Two times a week I try to do interval running on the treadmill.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
When i can go, I do a class at the gym usually Zumba on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes I will do a fat burning or strength training class before Zumba.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
I'm totally exercise-challenged.
I try to go 3 times a week - running/walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes, which works out to about 2 1/4 miles.
I'm hoping that once I get the hang of this exercise thing I can branch out and do more for longer....but this is a HUGE step for me and I'm pretty proud of myself when I make it all three times a week.

Re: Those who work out at the gym
Right now I am still running outside, but I know those days are numbered.
At the gym, here is my schedule M - 60-70 min run T - 60-70 min run - Hill Workout W - 60-70 min run Th - 60-70 min run - Tempo or Pick-ups F - Rest Sat - 45-50 min run - Easy Sun - 90+ minute run
Two days a week I lift weights. The days vary depending upon my schedule. I mainly focus on upper body since my lower body is well defined from running.
